Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

LES ARCS 2016 - 2017

@nabus, as @johnE, Cascades used to be "ski tranquille", and indeed is a very gentle blue. The slow Pre St Esprit lift at the bottom also helps keep it quiet...albeit due for replacement for 17/18

To get from 1950 to the Marmottes lift area the easiest way for beginners is to ski through the village: look for the exit through Sources de Marie building.
The Marmottes slope to the side, from Luigi's down to the bottom is very busy, and can become chopped and icy very quickly: and quite early on too, as all the Arc2000 ski schools head down that way at the start of the day. I'd say there's a 150m stretch that is generally lumpy by 10am.

Hi all - Any recommendations for the best web cam to monitor Arc 1950. I'm not going until Easter, but I am sad enough to want to check out the snow through the season!! Happy

@Langers Utd, have a look at

which is the source of Rob's suggestion, plus 2 others. (One of our owners created an app to have the view from the clock as your screen background... which is nice...but a real time suck)

Just a quick reminder. The discounted passes from 3 to 15 days finish on 31 October so hurry if you have already booked your holiday for this winter. I do not think the discount applies to family passes. You will need to check.

Also, it is confirmed on the Les Arcs web page when you begin the ordering process that you get one day free on the La Plagne side with the Les Arcs pass of three days or more. This use to be called the discovery pass, but is now included in all ski passes for les arcs.

Getting colder now. Hope the real snow starts to come soon.

Also one friend tells me he still has studio for rent for some high season periods and another has a season rental still free. Send me PM if you want further info.

For those looking for ski or snowboard lessons in English, I am starting to put together an updated list of those Instructors still around this winter. Ler me know if you need someone for private lessons. I will only be including those legally allowed to work in the Paradiski area.

Just had the first 8th Annual Les Arcs Film Festival newsletter through: 10th - 17th Dec. It includes the lovely passage below:

Quote:
Now, book your holidays at les Arcs from 49€ including your accommodation*****, ski package, and limitless cinema !
All the reasons are good to join us at Les Arcs Film Festival and live a beautiful experience. http://welcome.lesarcs-filmfest.com/

Now whether there's not a lot of snow, or buckets of it, €49 for a week in 1950??? Oh boy... this is sooooo tempting!

@Arctic Roll, Nothing is ever as good as it looks. I just tried your link and the total price for that week when you go to book on the PV page is Euro 870 for 6 days skiing with film pass for one person. Always worth reading the small print! Sad Maybe owners get a promotional code to get extra discount! Puzzled

Discounted Lift Passes.

Been some chat about discounted lift passes so thought I would share this with everyone.
It look's like you cannot get a discount for 1 to 5 days now on a normal lift pass before the 31 October. If anyone has managed to get a discount for less than a 6 days pass please let us know

For those not able to make the deadline of 31 October for getting your ski pass or want some discount on less than a 6 day pass. It might be worth trying this.

Ski a la carte Card. I have used this card for visiting other ski areas for many years since it first started. Gives a little discount so worth the effort IMO.

Best to buy a 'Ski a la carte' card if only doing 1 to 5 days as this gives you from 10 - 15 % discount. Also on some special days during the season you could get as much as 40% discount in some resorts, but check the small print! You also need to do your sums to be sure that the discount this card gives you is better than the price of a lift pass for all the days you plan to ski. However, the good thing about this card is that it only charges you for the days you do ski and the area in which you ski.

Use this link for more info.

Blue sky day today and warm. Still no snow below 3000m. Hope the snow starts coming soon. Time to cross the fingers maybe that the winter comes back soon. Hope this helps with your planning.

Have just had a look at the Les Arcs lift pass prices. As far as I can see the cost of a family 6, 7 or 8 day lift pass is unaffected by the 31st October deadline, as the discount shown is based on the family pass not the early bird discount.

I'm therefore assuming the 10% discount before 31st October only applies to individual passes and there is no particular rush for families to buy their tickets in the next two days?

I bought our la plagne pass yesterday. The family pass discount is that before end of October you get all adult passes at the same price as a child price so it's worth doing. The full paradiski pass works on the same principle so maybe the Les Arcs one does to. It's quite a saving.

Jirac18, are you sure? I read it as snowymum says and that the 10% only applies to individual passes and not the family pack.

I know by the time anyones clicks on this link it will have all gone and you will be looking at people strolling in shorts etc. but at 12:21 today there was about 10cm of snow in Arc 1800. I think this is more than last year right upto Christmas.

There was a bit more than that on my car this morning, at least 15cm and it is continuing to snow lightly.

@chrisrawles, bit too early for any reliable indicator of snow conditions 6 or 7 weeks away, but I'd rather see it white than not at this time of year. Forecast seems to be for cold temperatures for the next few days plus further snow flurries.

It's been snowing all day in 1800, either down to very light flakes (like now), or moderately heavy snow. Snowline this morning was down to about 1500m and it looks very wintery, although still autumnal when you drop below the snowline.

Hi All,
It has been a few years since I skied Les Arcs ...but I'll be there for a week between 21-28th January with some hard charging friends!
Thinking of my stomach as usual....what are the on-piste restaurant options worthy of closer look?
Happy to ski down to Villaroger for a good feed!

If you fancy a very nice meal at the side of the piste I can recommend either the Belliou La Fumee or Chalets L'Arc, both of which are in the 2000 bowl. Also the Lodge in the Mille 8 is pretty good. These are all a little on the pricey sit down for a nice meal side Smile

@snowcrazy, thanks for the tip about Ski-a-la-Carte - much better rices on a short trip, for instance our 3 days in Jan (including a Saturday = €144 as opposed to €168, including the sub. If you do a lot of short trips 9th, 14th, 19th, 24th, day's skiing will only be invoiced at €1 (of course all of that is in my dreams!!)
