Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mid-Week Transfer options to Tignes

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello , First timer after months of reading so go easy please Toofy Grin . I was just looking if anybody had any advice of a cheap way to transfer from Geneva to Tignes on a Tuesday (27/12) flight gets in at 5pm. Its our first time on a shorter trip and would usually just jump on Ben's Bus but i didn't realize that they only worked weekend's. The only things i can seem to find are private transfers which at the moment are costing more then the flights and accommodation put together.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to snowHeads @dye,

You need https://www.altibus.com/

The timetables will not be loaded for another month or so (they are still on holiday!). But for the last 20 years the last bus has been at 1915, arriving Tignes around 2200hrs. Last year it was €115 return. A wholly reliable service.

The first return of the day arrives at Geneva at 1040 hrs. If you have a long wait consider an airport lounge pass - it will save money.

The other cheap option is a hire car, and course you get full flexibility with times etc.

and a hired car is a specially good option for a short trip - transfers by private taxi or bus cost the same, no matter how long or short your stay.

For more than two people renting a car is a no-brainer, and could be a reasonable option for two if the buses are not wholly convenient.

Given the time of arival hiring a car may be the best option. However the cheepest way if you arrive earlier in the day is to simply catch the train from Geneva to Bourg st Maurice

Is it that easy or worth it? Anyone got link to train timetables for this route and do you have to change in Chambery? Also how far to train station in Geneva from airport, bus or taxi?

It might be worth emailing Mountain Sun, as they have a mini bus every day for their own clients.

My wife did it last year. It cost her, if she remembers correctly, about 24 euros each way. OK, I confess, I was not with her at the time, she went with our nephew leaving me at work. The train station is actually at the airport. You get the train from the airport to the centre of Geneva, then to Chambery and then to Bourg. I think they said you get off the train at Chambery, the train pulls out and a few minutes later get on the next. She reported it as very comfortable and easy. However, since she was going to Les Arcs, it was a bit of a trek over the foot bridge and an extra 7 euro to go up the funicular.

We normally hire car, which always irks me as all we do is hire a car and then drive to Arcs 2000, park it for a week and drive back and in reality it ain't cheap. I would say hire car and fuel normally sets up back £250+ for the week.

Train interests me but some heavy bags to shuffle from train to train.

Adults should be able to carry their own gear for short distances (if not, they need to travel lighter!) but it's a problem if you have small kids.

£250 - 300, for family transfers, is really not bad at all though. A taxi transfer would cost more and the bus, as noted above, is around £100 per person and less convenient.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

We used Ryan at Inter Alps transfers last time we went to Tignes. Seemed pretty reasonable compared to some of the other quotes I got for a private transfer; think it's because they are based in Tignes.

Ryan was super friendly and was patient enough to let us load up the taxi with booze and croissants whilst passing through Moutiers. Not sure if he does mid-week. Might be worth a look though.
