I am wondering why you are focusing on France? Another I would suggest looking at is Obergurgl nice and high very short transfer from Innsbruck... |
Not so much focusing on France, focusing on where I can go as a solo parent, and Austria is not one of the places.

Ah - my understanding is that it isn't a case of you can't go to the other places they just have some better deals to those places...
It would be worth phoning them - which I know feels really alien on today's world but given it is a school holiday week they may not have availability for those deals any way.
Also given it is just two of you now you can probably get lasts its availability you have the courage to wait (this coming from me who booked our April week with Esprit last February!!! My defence is that with a family of 4 we are after interconnecting rooms or suites with two rooms which limits our options).

@Boofont, as I said in my review of the Ducs, it isn't the most palatial of places but for a 'boys' skiing holiday it was perfectly adequate. The food was good (it seems to be the same across all their Chalet Hotels), the beds are comfy, the bathrooms clean and there was always plenty of hot water. They have carried out some refurb over the last couple of summers and built a new dining room and increased the bar space. Oscar thought is was great; and that for me was what mattered most.
The negatives to the Ducs is that it is not ski in, ski out but you can walk or get the bus from right outside the door. That negative also gives its biggest positive; it is smack in the middle of Val.
If it is more luxurious accommodation you are after then the Chalet Hotel Des Deux Domaines in Belle Plagne is what you want. It is ski in/ski out and has a pool, sauna, etc. The rooms are very nice and the general décor is much better. But, again, as I said in my review, the much higher cost over the Ducs du Savoie didn't seem worth it for me and my son. If I was travelling with my wife it would be a different story.

Well, that's all sorted then! I actually called esprit yesterday evening, they had limited availability at Val, Meribel and Aple D'Huez.
Alpe d'Huez had no flight availabilty so I would have to book that myself, not a massive issue as such but the price for accommodation was £1800, so plus flights I imagine would be well over £2k - non starter. Meribel looked nice, but I'm not sure about the early April snow, plus it was £1909. So, that left Val, I think they only had one room left so I didn't want to miss it. I stayed up late this morning (I'm actually on nights floating off the coast of Africa at the mo!) and booked us in, room 205 which I hope is not so noisy as the room you stayed in Gaza. No flights from Edinburgh which is a shame. However, went with a flight to Chambery from Bristol. I can get an Easyjet flight from Inverness to Bristol, and as my parents live sort of close by, I can tie in a short stay with Grandma and Granddad! Basic cost, £1694. Not bad at all really. Course there's lessons and flight supplements, but a bit better value than the other two options!
So that's Gregor and I booked in for a week, 3 Apr 16 in the Chalet Hotel Ducs de Savoie in Val d'Isere! I wonder if any other Snowheads will be there? If so, be nice to me! We're both super excited! I hope we get some good snow in Scotland over the winter to hone our skills!

Great news @Boofont. Our room was on the first floor so you are well away from it. By the sounds of it you are on the second floor of the new extension. In saying that they don't list room 25 on the website so it could be very new which will be a very good thing.
I am sure the two of you will have a great time and you will have no problem finding a ski buddy and Gregor will make lots of friends.

I typo'd on the first post, it's 205 not 25, and it is listed, second floor.
