Poster: A snowHead
|
I am off to Courmayeur in Feb and need to organise a transfer from Geneva airport to Courmayeur for three people. I don't know whether to hire a car or get a taxi. Does anyone have experience of this and/or suggestions? We really don't need a car once we get there so it may well be more hassle than it's worth, but it depends how much a taxi will cost! Any advice will be appreciated.

Meister Jäger, hire a car, a taxi would be a fortune.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

David@traxvax, totally agree, it's a nice easy drive up the autoroute blanche, 90 mins or so.
Also with a car you can also ski in for example La Thuile and Chamonix if/when you get bored with Courmayeur......

There is a bus that goes from Geneva airport to Chamonix, then change in Chamonix for one to Courmayeur. Takes about 2 hours, buses link so no hassle.

beanie1,
That might be a better option as the Mont Blanc tunnel by car will be quite expensive over a week... forget what it is but think I recall about £18 each way...Could be wrong here tho'

Thanks everyone for the info. Looks like it will be car hire since our flight arrives at around 9pm Sat night. That was our original plan but I thought there may have been an easier or cheaper option. Now I'll have to look into the parking arrangements in Courmayeur! A car may allow us to ski Cervinia or Champoluc for a day. I think the ski bus to La thuile would be easier than taking the car, but I do vaguely remember it being difficult getting space on the bus in the evening unless you were very early.

Meister Jäger,
You can also ski Pila if you take a car. Lots of parking at the base of the gondola, lovely sunny resort - great if weather is cold!

Hi All
We used a very reasonable and relaible trnasfer outfit based in Chamonix.
They were called GAT and website is www.geneva-airport-transfers.com I think
Nice driver called Corin met us at Geneva airport and drove us through the tunnel straight to our hotel (hotel Svizzero).
Cost about €220 euros each way for 6 of us.
Hope this helps

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

GAT sounds good.
Also, the Taxi man at Courmayeur bus station told me ,I THINK, 100 euro each way from Courmayeur to Chamonix whether it be one person or four. That would get over the restricted number of buses which do that journey.

In fact I used ATS for full journey Courmayeur to Geneva at 85 euro incl card charge and phone booking premium. Nominally base charge was 76 Euro. Bang on time and very comfortable.
