Poster: A snowHead

Hey!
Want to buy a neck warmer of some sort, but i'm split. Can't really try them anywhere and it's my first time buying a neck warmer specifically, i usually just use a scarf.
So my predicament is, I don't know whether to buy a buff (regular, polar, cyclone), or this Helly Hansen neck warmer I've been looking at http://www.friliv.dk/herretoej/huer-handsker/huer/hh-warm-neck-guard_672.aspx (Lifa on the inside and merino on the outside) or something else altogether?
I want to wear it over my mouth and nose, but I'm not sure what'll be warm enough and still not get to wet from condensation.
Any insight greatly appreciated.

I've got this
http://www.salomon.com/uk/product/powder-colar.html?article=353398&cmpid=ps_sports_uk_gg_shopping_tr_fw14
Works well on the whole.... My only gripe is that it has an elasticated band and the top that can rub against my helmet.... I'd probably buy the full balaclava version now If I had to buy another.
People on here will probably tell you to get merino.... Although IMO a merino neck gaiter will hold too much fluid created by your breath and it will feel soggy and cold.
I'd look for something that is synthetic, full balaclava, has some degree of wind protection and has breathing hole.
Hope that helps

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

That looks good, but expensive. I bought a fleece one for less than €2 in Decathlon this week. But no one garment will do all the jobs you want. IMV a neck warmer does not do the same job as a balaclava. I have a thin balaclava (goes under helmet). But it's worn as well as a neck warmer, not instead. I have several thicknesses of neck warmer too, because sometimes it's just little chilly, sometimes Baltic. You can stick it over your mouth and nose but if you're not careful you can steam up your goggles and yes, of course, it can get damp,
For very cold days you need a neoprene face mask with breathing holes. Plus a balaclava, plus a big chunking neck warmer. And maybe a skinny buff.

Get yourself on a bash. If your lucky they might be giving out free ones. They are the best ones . Two if it's really cold but don't get as cold and soggy as fleece

I usually ski with either nothing or a buff, but in really cold weather I haven't beat a £3 Lidl motorbike fleece neck warmer with the front section covered with a windproof soft membrane.

Buffs are so useful that you really need a variety, as @pam w says. You certainly don't need expensive ones but at least one warm fleece one and one lighter fabric.

@Scarpa, that sounds a bit nippy for me, going out in just a buff, which part of your body do you cover up?! my salopettes and helmet are a must before the buff!
