Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Metacarpal fracture and finger dislocation

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
After a completely otherwise innocuous pre-release and tumble I found myself with ring finger dislocated (titanium ring on it ugh) and only after xray a fractured little finger metacarpal.

Apparently need to have the fracture checked on return home - i.e. monday.

No great pain.

Tedious.

Experiences?

Prognostics as to when I can reasonably expect to ski?

Used to do that with monotonous regularity when playing volleyball ( I used to play National Division 1 in the UK and Division 2 in France). After losing one ring due to having to have it cut off, I stopped wearing any for matches or any sport, including my wedding ring. As a left-hander it was a wee bit more of an inconvenience, but if you are a right-hander, then splinting it against its neighbours was about as technical as it got. As soon as I was "released" I used a soft squash ball to exercise the fingers to prevent them seizing up.

As for skiing, I used to switch to a mitten on the affected hand, it did not stop me at all. wink

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Theses tend to do well but you must follow advice to get it moving, especially the dislocation.

The knuckle will be quite swollen for a long while and probably not ever get back to normal.

This may mean getting the ring on difficult.

Wait a few months before getting the ring enlarged.

I am aware of an F1 racing driver who drove a race with a recently acquired metacarpal fracture, he placed quite well.

It was quite sore though.
