Next week looking quite snowy in the lakes. Gale force westerly winds and regular showers could start to fill savages gulley. Worth watching

@Peter S, I'm up today and tomorrow hopefully-are you in the area? I didn't realise there was a Lake District thread so have been posting in the English/Welsh thread.
Will report back.

Worth taking my skis up this Sunday? Looking to do some touring, low level but just to get out again.

I was up on Saturday (31st) and the slopes around the tow were skiable, fresh powder over ice, but the strong winds have stripped much of the loose snow from the peaks and ridges, leaving just what is caught between rocks and clumps of grass. Lots of hard ice there too. I just about managed to board half the way down from Stybarrow Dodd towards the carpark at Stannah, but it was hard going to find enough snow to make a proper run of it. Included a long traverse across 30 degree ice, I was glad of the edge holding ability of a snowboard there! It's been almost entirely dry here (Manchester) all week since then, but cold. So conditions are unlikely to have changed much.

Raise is open again today. Still plenty of snow on the two main runs and hopefully some light showers around to freshen things up a bit.

weather warnings now issued for more snow early next week although Wednesday at the moment is looking like heavy rain.

A lot of snow has fallen on the fells today and more showers the next two days.
Could be some digging to do!

Raise should be open again today. Webcam shows deep cover at pylon 1 and a lot of digging out was necessary mid week to get the tow running. Sunday onwards looks cold and snowy. Could do with some of that in the Pennines

More digging on Wednesday by the look of it http://www.lakedistrictweatherline.co.uk
Getting towards the big depths of last year though with wnw winds rather than sw giving the biggest depths this year at the bottom of the runs. A case of best snow on the lower slopes perhaps !
Will be interesting to see the pics on Wednesday if a team get up there. Unfortunately then becoming very mild over the weekend but perhaps cooling down a little next week

@Peter S, I saw that. That's on my list of things to do but I suspect that being there when it's in condition will be tricky. The surface looked 'variable' from the vid.

Despite the massive thaw on Saturday Raise still has a deep base and was operational again yesterday. Webcam still looks good.
Some of the Members went on to ski Helvellyn head wall later in the day.
Seems I was a bit over optimistic above. Yesterday was only day 28 of the Lakeland ski season
Forecast is for freeze thaw this week so some further snow loss but hopefully now at a slower rate. Next week pressure builds over the UK so lighter winds and cooler temperatures should stabilise conditions.

Currently around freezing at the summit but more rain tomorrow
However, turning colder Friday morning with some light snow possible. Pressure building bringing cool but light easterlies. Hopefully a good chance of more skiing this weekend.

@Peter S, I'm hoping to head up with a view to looking at the line down to Red Tarn but will watch the weather. Maybe catch you on the hill

A team has gone up today to investigate and hopefully ski, probably after some more digging. From the webcam pic it looks as though the snow may be back up to the stop button on P1
I may however be at the 'other place' tomorrow. Duty calls and there is snow in the North Pennines today.

Good report from yesterday. Excellent sunny weather and only a slow thaw with the snowpack freezing up overnight with low dewpoints.

Forecast for the weekend isn't as good unfortunately, but not terrible. Valley temperatures should remain below 10C next week.
See the website on Friday night about the possibility of skiing on Saturday then Sunday.

I skied the Helvellyn \ Red Tarn head wall today. Mixed snow conditions, nice where it was back to the 'old' snow which had softened. The new snow which had accumulated in places was best avoided. Towards the half way point it was still frozen or had refrozen as the shadow moved across the slope. A remarkable day out
Photo's available if anyone wants to me to add them.

@Mike Pow, @moffatross, Cheers The tarn was looking lovely yesterday.
The gully line in the top photo was also skied a couple of weeks ago I think. @Peter S may have some more info.

Great pics another thing.
The top is reckoned to be 55 degrees so that first turn is important. Its 20 years since I skied it but it does get regular attention when it is skiable. Still a fairly select group though. Good stuff.
Amazing that Red tarn still has ice in it. Did you know there's are remains of a mosquito in the lake which clipped the summit of Catstycam during the war and ended up in the Tarn.

@Peter S, Cheers. It certainly got my attention as I rounded the path and saw it in full for the first time. Not to mention mooching around the top trying to work out a line with onlookers asking 'Are you really going to do that?' !
The ice on the tarn was beautiful, the way it had broken up and refrozen give the individual pieces different colors. The photo doesn't do it justice. I had not heard the story about the mosquito.

That looks fantastic. When I see pictures like this I find myself thinking if only global warming would have the inverse effect of colder winters, imagine the skiing we could have on our doorstep then. Dream, dream, dream . . .

Another fantastic day in the Lakes. I think it may be weekend 10 on the trot that the tow has run. Evidence of a great season.
Followed Andanotherthings tracks down Helvellyn. 25 years since the last time I skied it. still a big adrenalin rush and icy than I would have wished
Bit less snow than wednesday but still skiable to Red Tarn with the odd grass ski. And STILL ice bergs on the Tarn.
Only 6 skiers today on Raise. Where is everyone ? It was superb today.

Have still to ski in the Lakes (!) - really must get round to it.
I do think the LDSC website could be improved - the lack of snow report (never mind detailed report ) is hardly conducive to encouraging visitors. You basically have the webcam and a Twitter note saying whether the tow is running.
