As this is my trip that has to be at half term (I can avoid it for my other trips), they are all pretty busy. However, one of the companies recommended Freedom 2 Ski, who had just enough spaces for my daughters, so I've booked them in. Seemed really nice on the phone, so I'm pleased.

Hoping someone can help with some bus connection advice.
Our friends are staying in Linga and we are looking at various locations through Chatel but when we checked the bus schedule it seems the buses all stop around 7-8pm.
Does that mean that late evening returns are out of the question? Just thinking about getting back from an evening meal, departure around 10 pm
We are currently favouring one apartment near the Super Chatel lift.

@porkpiefox, don't know them but I think they'll be fine and at half term you've done well to find space with a Brit school, hope it works well!
@rookierich, If you stay near the Super Chatel lift you can walk easily and quickly to anywhere in town. Your friends at Linga will have more of an issue. I've never checked but I can't remember seeing any buses running at night and there aren't any taxis. People just walk or drive.

most people walk - i remember heading to work one morning on Route de Vonnes on a snowy day at around 07.30 and 2 herberts came over to me and asked if they were on the road to the Linga - erm... i pointed where they should be going and they took their rather too dilated pupils and alcohol laced breath back in to town... i assume they made it back to Linga but

Not sure if this is the right place to ask. Apols if not. Do any of the supermarkets in Morzine have online shopping or collection? For some reason earlier this year I thought I read that Carrefour Drive operated out of Eds supermarche but I can't seem to find anything on this now. Could anyone help? Is there anywhere else in the local area that does online shopping and collection? Thanks

@Mountaindoc, If no-one replies, why not just check out the Carrefour website? Surely that'll give you a definitive answer (if you haven't done so already...)
There's also an (I think) Super-U in Taninges which might also work.

I did look at the Carrefour website which is horrendously confusing. I'm pretty sure there was a listing on their Carrefour Drive page for Morzine last season but it seems to have disappeared.

@Mountaindoc, Carrefour website shows this address as their "Drive" shop in Morzine "535 ROUTE DE LA PLAGNE" which if you Google streetview shows an Ed store.
We noticed during the summer that an ED store that we had used for years which had been rebranded as a DIA store for the last couple of years was now carrying CARREFOUR branded own goods. We assumed that the former ED/DIA stores had been taken over or were being rebranded as Carrefour.

@Mountaindoc, I have just been looking at this site shown by @under a new name, and then you. I put in 74260 Les Gets and it popped up. Looks like an 11 euro charge. I haven't had time to really look further, but is this a click and collect service, ie it would be waiting at Carrefour in Les Gets? Might be useful for people staying at our chalet. I know that Sherpa and also SuperU are meant to do home deliveries but we have never found it necessary to use, but I suppose I should try out the service some time.

@Pamski, This is what I believe it to be. I'm hoping to use it for when we go to Morzine with the kids next month (we are flying in and getting a transfer so no car). We are self-catering but the company managing the chalet (who are lovely and have booked with several times) have offered to collect the first shop and pop it in the fridge for us if we order online. I'm going out there (again self-catering) with my mates in a couple of weeks so maybe I'll try it then and report back. The only issue is that it only lets you book a collection slot a few days in advance rather than weeks.

Afternoon all. Not been on here for a while as we couldn't ski last year and it would have been too much torture! Heading to Morzine (Prodains) for half term - finally had to swallow the pill - and am after some driving route advice, please.
I usually stay on the A40 from Geneva until Cluses and from there head up through Taninges. However, when I've been on the transfer bus they turn off the autoroute earlier. Maybe just reducing toll exposure...?
Any recommendations for the best route in on 14 Feb, bearing in mind it is the half term weekend? Aiming to leave Mercure at Gaillard around 7am so hopefully will miss the worst of the traffic....?
How early do we have to leave at the end of the week to get out of the valley sensibly? Read all the horror stories about half term and never know how much is true and how much is Daily Fail style sensationalism...

This years half term coincides with 2/3 of France (but not Paris) and not with the Dutch. So not the perfect storm but will of course be busy.
I think some favour an earlier exit and the D907 rather than Cluses/Taninges but it is not really my patch.
For end of trip either leave Friday night or ski all day Saturday and overnight Sat/Sun on the way home.

anyone around Champery/Avoriaz today? Looking to head over on Sunday and wondering what the general piste conditions are like - presumably on piste is firm but generally fine? Will be parking in champery and skiing over to avoriaz....best nick up high in Avoriaz?

Can anyone here tell me how easy/quick the link from avoriaz over to Les Crosets would be. Would it be practical to stay in avoriaz if I was going to be mainly skiing in Les Crosets. I'm struggling to find affordable accommodation there during the Welsh ski champs in late Jan and there's lots of cheap crystal deals on the French side.

One lift up to the ridge between Avoriaz and Lindarets, ski a run down to Brocheaux and up the Mossettes lift and then ski down into Les Crosets.
30 minutes max assuming no queues.

A question for one of you locals please ...
We are coming to stay in l'Amara (Avoriaz) in Feb. Basic research suggests that (a) it is ski in/ski out; and (b) the development sits atop a shopping mall, either at ground level or one down.
The main question relates to ease of access to the mall (and in particular the supermarket there, if there is one). Is it feasible to go from apartment to shop without 'putting your coat on', as it were? We like to eat in and are generally very happy with Casino or Carrefour's finest, perhaps supplemented by a local baker/ fromagerie/ deli.
And secondly - is l'Amara really ski in/ski out? I think there's also ski hire in one of the shops in the mall?

At thé bottom of amara there are some restaurants and a ski hire shop. I wouldn't describe it as a shopping mall. The nearest supermarket is about 500m away and you'll defintely need your coat.

Yep, I stayed in Amara last year and will be doing so again this year. It's definitely ski in, ski out.
There are a couple of ski shops and a couple of restaurants in the central area, but it's definitely not a mall.
There is no shop there, so it's a short walk to the nearest shop for provisions, although you can pre-order bread items in the evening at reception and it will be waiting for you in the morning.
In summary, I've just completely repeated what snoozeboy said, albeit unintentionally

Thanks for the replies. One more Q please: is there such thing as an Avoriaz (as opposed to PdS) ski pass? And if so what is the area limit?
Reason for asking is that our group combines two greedy skiers, one very lazy one and one who is 'evolving'. I am prepared to buy a family PdS pass for the week but I'm pretty sure that at least one of us won't travel all that far - but maybe to Morzine, where we know our way around pretty well.

@L8, there is an Avoriaz pass. Limits are (I think) Bases: Ardent, Prodains - Tops: Chaux Fleurie (direction Chatel), Mossettes (Direction Crosets). I can't recall where the limit is for Super Morzine - I'd guess you can go as low as the top of the bubble but no further.

Question for Les Gets/Morzine locals please - we are staying in the centre of Les Gets in a couple of weeks. I was there last year for a few days with friends and didn't get out of the local ski area. This year I am with husband and kids. He hasn't skied in Les Gets before, but will have probably skied the whole area and be wanting to explore further afield by midweek. If we get out and on the lifts by 9am sharp, and have to be back to pick up kids at 2pm, what are the chances of us getting beyond Morzine? Is there a quick route over that way those in the know use, or would you just recommend getting on the bus to Morzine (or somewhere beyond?) for a few hours somewhere different? We are capable of skiing at a reasonable touring speed and getting down anything that is pisted (not sure I would want to be relying on a 'local's short cut' off piste to get back in time for the kids though!) Thanks!

Quickest option will probably be bus, first Les Gets to Morzine (1.5Euro I think) then Morzine to Ardent/Prodains (free).
The 'run' across from the top of the Super Morzine to Avoriaz isn't really fun, just flat so with limited time I'd skip it and get to Avoriaz ASAP on the bus.
