Not sure yet. Most likely a bit further east (possibly Fieberbrunn if it's dumped enough), but will depend on if/where the Big One hits, we're chasing the snow . Will drop you a mail if we do end up there though.

@shredder, what @sah said. With a bit of luck we'll get enough snow to trigger the weak layers and kick start a big avi cycle to clear them out.
Gonna be all about the trees though, personally. |
Yep, trees it is. Talking of which, any tips for tree skiing in Austria? Is there much in Montafon? I *think* Fieberbrunn has a bit. Maybe even worth looking low lying places. Sessioning the Fangbahn is OK, but if the winds do get up that's going to be busy.

What's the latest thoughts on. The storms? They have been downgraded, will this not be the big one? Seems a stormy pattern continues thought, Almost time for me!

There will be storms. There will be snow and wind. Beyond that it's not possible to say (depth predictions are pretty much random numbers anyway). The long term prediction form Bergfex was looking like over a metre late this week, that's not the forecast now, which is probably a good thing, a metre of fresh in high winds could close the top lifts for days. It's was snowing at the weekend, it's going to snow most of the coming week, it's all good. Apart from the wind:(

Yeah there is here, though I'm not 100% sure how *allowed* it is.
Obertilliach is sick, and I'm told the other resorts in the area like Sillian are also good. Apparently Achensee and Werfenweng. Saalbach isn't too bad. Schlick2000 has some good stuff, but will likely to be filled with Innsbruck locals. Same for Nordkette. Zauchensee looks good from Waynos and Kooky's photos.
All depends on how cold it is though - if it snows hard right down to the valleys everywhere low lying will be game on, but there isn't much snow down low in most of Tirol right now. We were just able to ski down to the bottom of Nordkette (800m or so) yesterday, and that was with not giving a about stone damage.
If the snow comes in warm and high, Ischgl is one of the best options.

@sah, tiny little place with only a few lifts, but steep long falline shots in the trees. Had a sick day there last February with 50+cms fresh and aside from me and my two mates only 3 other people skiing offpiste.

Avi level was officially 3 then apparently raised to 4 (locally? That's the word we got from guides anyway) in Stuben today - several heliski trips were cancelled.

Anyone here heli the arlberg? Heli seems different in Austria than in us. Is it worth the extra $$ just to say we did it?

@Redwine, my view? It will never be worth the money just to say "you did it." (That implies you would care that anyone else cares, which surely undermines the whole purpose?). It might be worth the money to say "I loved it" as that's your call.
If you just want to end up spraying money to impress people maybe put your credit card behind the bar at Mooserwirt for an evening for everyone. It'd be pricey but worth the extra $$ just to say you did it!

@Redwine,
I done a few drops in the Silvretta in the 80's with Manfred Lorenz
from Galtur (search him on google). Chopper flew
over from Switzerland. Pilot was an American Vietnam Vet.
It is now banned in the Tirol.
You can still go in Voralberg (Lech) but the drop off points are
limited. It is also Extremely expensive nowadays.
As @Markymark29, says hike earn your turns!!!

Well we had almost a meter of new snow in my yard. Unfortunately it is only a 1 degree slope. Anyone been out in the arlberg. All the scratchy stuff a thing of the past? Will all the Avi actuvity make things more stable?

The bottom snow layer, next to the dirt is unstable, so the problem is there for the season. I saw lots of natural avy slide paths, that went to the ground, on East and South facing slopes. Over in the Aunfeld area, while riding the gondola to Warth, I watched a guy trigger a slide about 3 turns into his run on an East facing slope. Stay safe out there, while earning your turns. Hire a guide if you don't know what you're doing, and still not a bad idea to hire a guide if you do kn ow what you're doing. Still no gurantees though.
I posted this pic earlier. Upper left middle side of pic you can see a guy standing above concave slope. This is a East to NE facing slope. To the right of this pic, is where I saw the same thing happen real time. I didn't see what happend to the guy who triggerd the slide. (He dropped below a ridge line) It was not a big slide, and was slow moving. But still, anyone seeing that slide activity should have rethought dropping into the same type of slope/aspect, etc. FWIW, he was with a ski buddy who had dropped in and skied to skiers right of where the 2nd skier triggered the slide.

Any chance Valluga will open soon or is the snowpack too unstable even though they have been blasting away?

+2. I did see the Heli flying mid week. I also saw lots of really fantastic looking terrain over on the opposite side of Warth. Holy crap, did I want to go exploring! Next time! Seriously though. There's so much terrain to explore, and in some cases, doesn't take a lot of effort or time to reach. I spent one day just doing tram laps of the Tritkopf bahn, and busing it back from Zuers. Skied lots of untracked that day. And that was 3 days after the storm...But Lech isn't quite like it was, as are most places it seems in the Alps. Lots more people hitting the off-piste now.
