Forecasting snow down to 1200m in my neck of the woods as of tomorrow, so I should wake up to a nice white view on Thursday when I get back home (assuming I can actually see the damned thing! )

Looks like the "Snow tease cycle" has started. ( i.e. Big snow forecast, a fraction of what's forecast actually comes, weather warms up and it's gone again. )

We're going to give Kitzsteinhorn a blast either tomorrow or Sunday depending on the weather. Earliest in the season I've ever polished off the kit!

Sorry to hear that Samerberg Sue, hopefully you enjoyed the whisky. Kitzsteinhorn was fantastic yesterday - even managed a few pow turns at the sides. Seems the high winds on Saturday kept the hoards away

Sölden well prepared for ski world cup
Just two weeks before the Ski World Cup series is due to start the Austrian ski resort of Sölden in Tirol is well prepared.
The Ötztal has around 70 cm of new snow which was confirmed by the ski federation FIS.
Isidor Grüner said: "Here in Sölen it is like the middle of winter. The conditions are looking good. We couldn't hope for better conditions. It was more a coffee drinking session than a snow inspection. Nothing can go wrong now. Not even two days of none stop rain would be a problem.
Snow form snow machines is being mixed with real snow to keep the piste in good condition. 17 snow canons are being used to make the snow.
Group training in Sölden is due to start tomorrow (Tuesday) through to Saturday.
The WM in Sölden takes place on the weekend 67th and 27th of October 2013.

The whole area might not be open, but there is still skiing up to 2000m though, you just might not be able to ski all the way down.

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them,
Volleyed and thunder'd;
...
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and ski:
Into the valley of Life
Skied the six hundred.
The lifts opened for the season today in Leogang and, although I'm not sure that there were six hundred on the slopes, the cannons were certainly thundering, at least in the morning. The weather was great up till lunchtime. After lunch it clouded over. Here's a view looking up to the Asitz from the top of the Asitzbahn gondola, with the Alte Schmiede on the right (I had lunch there) and the Asitzbräu on the left (not open today).
The pistes were in great condition, though mostly hard (sometimes a bit rough) except were the cannons had pumped out new snow. Off-piste I still found difficult, heavyish and a little crusty in places. This photo was taken from the Sportbahn Asitzkogel 2000 chairlift...
The link over to Saalbach wasn't open but it should be there from next Friday, 6th December - here the top of the Poltenbahn chairlift that brings you back and the Saalbach lifts, the Schönleitenbahn, in the distance...
There were more lifts open in Saalbach-Hinterglemm than in Leogang, I think, but I still enjoyed an excellent day with plenty skiing in Leogang, until the sun started to set over the Asitz...
