Poster: A snowHead
|
Off for a day trip to Espace Killy tmrw. Never been before so would appreciate tips for an itinerary that would take in some entertaining blues and reds. Also would it be easiest to park in Tignes or Val D'Isere, priorities being maximising skiing time and least risk of getting lost?

Free parking at Tignes les Brevieres or at Val Claret if you show your one-day lift pass.
Easy (but not free) parking at La Daille for Val d'Isere.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

You have to drive through Tignes to get to Val d'Isere, so it would be quickest to park in Tignes. You can park for free in Tignes les Brevieres, the first Tignes village you come to (signposted off to the right). If you would prefer to be based more centrally then you can continue along the road a bit further (10-15 mins) to Tignes le Lac. In Le Lac there are several big multistory car parks. I don't recall the cost but don't recall it seeming extortionate either. If you park in T3 you come out in Maison de Tignes, right next to the main lifts.
The route is well signposted and fairly straightforward.

Park at Le Breviere, bubble to the Marais, take the Aiguille Rouge Chair, ski down Bluets into Le Lac, go up Palafour Chair, and ski back down to it, go up the Palafour again and the ski to the Merles chair, you can then ski Grattalu and Carline repeating if necessary via Tichot and Grattalu chair. Check time - coffee or lunch at the Aspen (30 metres from the wooden arch thingy in Val Claret. The go up Lanches and Vanoise to the Glacier (go up cable car if open) ski to your hearts content. To return home from Val Claret take Tichot + Grattalu ski the red merles run to the Grand Huit - turn left at the fork and ski to Aiguille Rouge Chair and then ski down Corniche (don't be tempted by Sache if you don't want a gnarly black - its a lot worse than it looks from the top!) at the top of the Aiguille Rouge chair turn left and work your way down to Breviere via Boisse if you wish.
Have a great day - looks like the best day this week

That is a great days skiing. I love blues and reds and that route around that side of Tignes is fantastic.

Chocksaway, many thanks. Today has turned into a look out at the snow while playing monopoly day on account of youngest being slightly unwell. However this gives me more time to study your itinerary in preparation for going tomorrow!
