Poster: A snowHead
|
I wonder if anyone can recommend some good May bank holiday skiing. Looking for a long weekend away, so something with a good chance of decent snow that isn't a million miles away (travelling from London)
Flights to Geneva seem reasonable, so which resorts are within easy reach of there, still operating in early May and won't hit my pocket too much. We're looking for intermediate slopes.
Thanks

Kaprun, Austria would be another option but flight prices are likely to be more expensive.

Fly to Munich or Salzburg (Ryan Air fly all year round) then get to Zillertal or Kaprun. A flight to Innsbruck if you can get one, would place you well for cheap hotel accommodation and local transport to Stubai. All these areas have more potential and varied skiing than the French glaciers. God public transport options or hire a car.
Beware that in May, Bavaria has a long weekend practically every week, so Sunday returns to the airports would need to be well planned if you fly to/from Munich (Easy Jet is the cheapie supplier there).

Baqueira in Spain (About 2 hrs from Toulouse) is apparently opening for the May bank holiday. It will be especially lovely there in the Spring and the amount of snow is bonkers.
Scotland must also be a possibility.

Ischgl, Obergurgl, Stubai, Hintertux, presumably Soelden too. Fly to Munich or Innsbruck.

Baqueira would be interesting. Is that confirmed that it is open in May?

Not sure how they're handling 1st May down that way, cos that's a Wednesday, but I can imagine people will take Mon+Tues?. We usually get a bonus holiday if the PH is a Tuesday or Thursday, but not a Wednesday.
A bank holiday Wednesday, 2x 4-day long weekends, and 1x 3-day weekend (this one is a Monday) all in May
From pics and comment over on STW, Jasna in Slovakia is looking good, and season extended to 8th May (but I've not seen any confirmation). Sadly I booked a flight elsewhere and not for skiing for that week.
