ish, impressive . . . not
may be marginally useful . . . . but "steez" . . . sorry sunshine but a discount ad centre is hardly "steez" . . . unless you think that the rest of the World is the same as 'Murika' in having cheese between the ears?
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?
Masque, so you guys dont want to be on our support page?
ish, Well you're hardly breaking the mould and seriously late to the kegger without bringing a fresh barrel . . . or even an interesting six-pack.
But keep plugging away, I'm just one voice and you may yet cut yourself a niche or find your USP . . . just be aware that most of the World considers American promotional technique as the equivalent to being slapped in the face with a rotten salmon then being told to buy this great fish . . . Oh, and breathless, juvenile prose is a real interest killer to anyone beyond breathless juveniles who have yet to master the mysteries of buying intimate lubrication for Madam Palm and her five Lovely Daughters . . .
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

yeah it's a bit busy and the layout isn't great. Your background image is nice but it makes it impossible to read bits of your text/intros - maybe think about having a solid colour border (maybe you can do that in white, I'm thinking a groomed piste that runs all the way along the left hand side). I think it shows promise and with all the colourful ads down the left hand side you may get some clicks/income, so good luck to you.
Should I feel guilty for telling someone their site is an ugly pile of regurgitated, commercial shoite? . . . . Na . . . but slightly embarrassed for not putting my butt on the line and producing what I think might work myself . . . But I'm old and have to consider if I want to work that hard for a fun but narrowing commercial recreational sport.
Jeez ish, just how far behind the curve are you?

'steez'!!! That has to be one of the wankiest teenage words I have heard in a longtime. It makes 'chillax' sound cool. I'm just surprised the website didn't keep calling me 'Dude' as well.
After all it is free

foxtrotzulu has a point which you might want to take on board - Steez is going to date faster than a fluro fartbag and its already beginning to reek.
Ok you're looking for eyeballs for the site but pimping a US-centric site to a pack of Brits is going to annoy. Obviously you're in the whole Instagram scene but thats a lot of real-estate your devoting to it.

Showing your age here chaps and and dare I say the closed perspective of a certain demographic:
1995 GZA feat. Method Man 'Shadowboxin' (repeated use of 'steez').
1998 Gang Starr 'You Know My Steez'.
If we are to assume that the term was in common usage prior to the above dates, shall we say a conservative 2 years? That's 20 years, give or take.
I think it's you guys that are dating faster than fluro fartbags. How'd you like my steez?

Snow Hound, I'd rate your post-steez as "dope" but if you change all your 'you's to 'U' the you can probably just tip over into "illin'".
Word.
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

"Slip the cardiac arrest me, excorcist hip-hop posess me
Crunch a nigga like a Nestle, you know my STEEZ"
Aaah, classic lyrics!
As Gang Starr was sampling GZA I think that counts as a single usage, so 'common usage' just might be pushing it a bit.
The fact that somebody used the word 18 years ago doesn't really stop it being wanky. They were using 'dude' in the 1870's and it still sounds like someone trying just a bit too hard to be trendy (and failing).
Please God, don't get me started on 'pow'!
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
As much as I hate to be a pedant (that's a lie, it's what I live for) as well as Premier using the GZA sample, Guru (R.I.P) actually uses 'steez' himself.
Also: "It's time to dethrone you clones and all you knuckle heads". As well as:"I'm like the Wizard and you look lost like Dorothy".
None of this changes the fact that the site is absolute 'ball hang' and made my eyes hurt.
Please do tell us all about the 'pow pow' - let rip - there's bug-ger all else to do round here with at least a gazillion months till most of us get to play in the snow again (See what I did there with gazillion? And really, it filters bug-ger? I don't want to do it I just want to type it.)
OMG dnt arks me about tex speak doh, I can bearly bring myself to employ a smiley.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Im hearing a lot of ridicule, which doesn't phase me since its coming from old farts who criticize the youth and discuss rap lyrics from the stone age,
but besides the use of the word Steez, I would like to know what other helpful advice others may have about the site. If your advice has anything to do with taking down the site, go listen to a cassette of Sir Mix-A-Lot or something.
Otherwise, its been fun reading your guys' responses and if anyone wants some stickers just email us at store@snowboardsteez.com
Peace and Cheers,
ish
You know it makes sense.

I think your problem is that it's a bit rude to make your first post an advert. Second, it's a bit off to post advertising something whilst pretending you're not. It looks like you work for them, but you tried to disguise that in your initial post. Perhaps we're not as stupid as you thought.
The site's owned by Emile LeVeille, 1 Juniper Road, Pepperell, MA US. He looks pretty old to me, way too old to be down with the kids. I can't be arsed to look at the actual site.
My bike has a cassette, but it runs fast and silent.
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

ish, I couldn't give a monkey's about the rap lyrics. They are all illiterate nonsense anyway.
Personally, I think that Snowboard Steez is a pretty crap name, but I'm not a snowboarder so my view is pretty irrelevant anyway.
One factor that I think you should consider is this.....
Quote:
old farts who criticize the youth
. Quite apart from the fact that I didn't notice anyone criticising 'the youth', all the stats I have seen recently suggest that snowboarding is in a gradual decline and that the average age is increasing. As the first crop of snowboarders are now well into middle age I understand that their children now see skiing as the cooler sport. Now, there are quite enough snowboarders out there to keep your website going strong, but it would be foolish to ignore the demographic trends and write off the 'old farts' who will increasingly make up the bulk of the market. Maybe the time has come for snowboarding to admit to itself it's not exclusively the preserve of teenagers before it becomes the alpine sports equivalent of an old man with a greasy, grey ponytail who calls everyone 'man' and 'dude'.

foxtrotzulu, Don't know WHERE to start disagreeing with you, other than to agree and say I also don't like SnowboardSteez as a name either - sorry ish but I don't; but then I (probably) don't fit your demographic of steezygeezers (geezer, its a British term; go Ask Jeeves about it... <-SEE HOW OLD WE ARE HERE ON SH!)

Snowboarding is already in this place I think. I've met some of the original pioneers, very low key guys in the parking lot but definitely not what you'd call yoof. Not much calling people dude though.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

ish,
I am not sure what you have done wrong? Have you been sending everyone private mail with swear words in it? You must have judging by the vitriolic responses you have received.
Your site seems okay, I am not sure what it does or how it works but then again, when I started at Uni in 2001 I didn't know how a computer worked (I was a mature student) so I reckon if I spent lots of time on it, it would be easy to use.
Having read your O/P again, I still can't see what wound everyone up so much or what you did wrong, you gave a little back by calling then a mildly insulting name (probably accurate in a few cases) so fair play to you. I couldn't care less if your first post was an advert, you have to get the word out somehow and at least you weren't offering Viagra at a discounted rate (which interestingly may have gotten a better response from some of the 'old farts').
A bit confused as to what the fuss is about but I will hopefully get a response to clear things up.
Richard_Sideways, So, does that mean you were generally agreeing with me, or just on that point?
I actually don't have much of a view on the website itself. Just the name and a slightly questionable attitude to a demographic that is gradually becoming your core market.
Personally, I am also quite relaxed, or chillaxed if you prefer, about the origial post. Yes, you were touting for trade, but you did it in a polite friendly and non-pushy way.
Anyway,... 'peace and keep it steezy'

davidhammy, just nothing new, informative or exciting . . . crappy language and a name worthy of ridicule anywhere outside the 3 second, 3rd grade educated attention span over here.
I suppose I was surprised at the reaction the O/P guy received , everyone seems pretty annoyed and I just couldn't work out why .
If you compare this post where it said "we have a new website, please look at it" and he gets shouted down and ridiculed and lay it off against the girl who posted a question about bindings not releasing, she disguised it as a question about contact details for the manufacturer but later she clearly stated that she had messed about with her own bindings, torn up her knee and now she wanted to make a claim!!
She got piles of responses along the lines of "you poor thing, are you okay"? Even though she was entirely to blame and clearly at it but a guy wants to push his new wintersports website on a wintersports forum and he gets shouted down.
Doesn't seem right to me and the clique attack was a bit OTT.
Peace out and word.

davidhammy, I have to admit that I have become more intolerant of the immense self-entitlement culture over here. The concept that whatever you do demands both respect and support no matter how ill researched or executed. I don't mind people getting their 15 minutes of fame but I object vociferously to the idea that you only have to be loud, obnoxious and 'in your face' to get and leverage that 15 min. into easy cash. Snowboardsteez is a practical example of this and is the equivalent of the sugar, salt and grease laden granola bars over here being labelled and sold as "HEALTHY" because somewhere in all that shoite is a tiny amount of fibre and protein.
I'm no part of any clique and I take most posts as they come and have restrained from many of the more 'controversial' threads . . . though I'll never lose the 'arsy old git' moniker no matter how little I contribute. In this case S'Steez is just 'naff' and a waste of my now limited time to get back after wandering down its pages. It offers nothing that does not already exist in plentiful opportunity. Good luck to them but reinventing the wheel has never made anyone rich or happy . . . now making a new type of wheel is another matter . . . the problem being is that far too many people regurgitating the old think that they are inventing the 'NEW' and are either too lazy or dim to understand the difference.

Wow, that was harsh.
Given that the snowheads banner is on the support page for the website I would assume there is some kind of promotion thingy happening between snowheads and the site in question. I assume therefor that someone from this forum has given this poor fellow permission to mention that his site existed.
But I know right. He used bad, uncool words and his site did not blow you away. ABUSE HIM! Why?

Zanarchist: IMHO ish missed the whole point of this BB. (Confused-ish)
Given that his best and only response to the inevitable criticism (not only because his webshite lacks any innovation or hook, but also because thats what happens on BBs) was to broad brush us all as inconsequential, kind of swayed it for me. (Fart-ish)
The response "OK, I take on board your thoughts, anyone else?" would have suggested he was looking for feedback. (foolhardy-ish)
The abuse he chose to introduce indicates he was trying to spam us all along. (Dumb-ish)
Personally, I am quite happy, old and farting as I am. I still have no idea of the intended meaning of the word steez. I assume it refers to property belong to a chav called Stephen. (I jest ish, please do not explain)
