Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

100 days to the Turin Winter Olympics - an update on preparations, from Reuters

Sophie Hardach, Reuters correspondent in Turin, gives an update on preparations for the Winter Olympics next February: click here.

Quote:
Turin's organizing committee, TOROC, proudly declare that construction of the Olympic venues — such as the ski jumps, bobsleigh track and cross-country loop — is almost finished.

However, work remains to be done on infrastructure and, with winter closing in, there is little time left.

Quote:
Olympic officials remain confident everything will be ready on time for the Games, from February 10 to 26. Last month IOC president Jacques Rogge said "all looks in good shape for an excellent Games in Turin next winter."

Valentino Castellani, head of TOROC [the organising committee of the Games], described Italy as "a last-minute country" when asked about sluggish ticket sales in early autumn. He expects sales to accelerate as the event approaches.

The article provides plenty of observation on the ground.

Will Italy be ready? Anyone out there care to comment?

They might sell more tickets if there was anywhere for visitors to stay...

Well, I've just come down the Jandri Express with two trainers from Sestrierre (+3 kids - remarkably well-behaved). They said that it's awful there - there are big containers all over the place, no snow and the construction of the new lifts is almost finished! they think this winter will be a dead loss for them, and are looking forward to 2007 onwards when they'll reap the benefits. They aren't expecting to work very much until after the games. They're thrilled that one new chairlift will carry 800 people per hour - I didn't like to tell them that our 8 person chair shifts nearly 3,000 per hour max!! Poor them. Jandri Express is 1800 BTW. Confused

easiski, hang on. Which new chairlift will carry "800 people per hour"? That figure sounds highly suspect. All modern chairlifts carry in excess of 2000 per hour.

There's no snow? Does one expect snow in the Milky Way on the 1st of November?
