Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A snowHead
I'm looking at booking an off-piste tuition week 30 March - 6 April in Chamonix.
Realistically, is this going to be worth doing? Or is the off-piste likely to consist of rocks and slush? Has anyone done it before around that time?
Thanks,
Tom

Would be interested in the response as I was looking to do Vallee Blanche from 6 April onwards.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'm going to be there too for the latter part of that week.
It will be fine - especially given how much snow we have had this year.
VB will be excellent - remember generally peak snow depths are in late Feb through to mid March and in 3 of the last 4 years in April there has been over 3 metres at the top.
Been several times in April - only had one poor year (2010-11) and we went to Courmayeur and Verbier where it was better (still not great though !).

It could be anything around that time. Best case is cold nights and warm sunny days for safety and for nice long spring snow runs. New snow might give you a day or two of untracked, but it will get heavy and crusty pretty quickly if the sun gets to it and then your options dwindle. Quantity of snow is no problem. It's up to the guide to deliver the best quality snow given the meteorological realities. By all means book the week.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Excellent news - thanks all.
