I'll go to Chamonix from 9/3 to 17/3 and I want to do some off-piste, I'll go with friend, and is too expensive for us to take private guide, so if there is a organized groups or something like this, and for accommodation I'm thinking to rent apartment, so also what is the best way to find accommodation ?
Thanks

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Ordinarily, I would recommend contacting any of the operations here that provide off piste guiding and putting your name down to join an existing group (tends to be cheaper that way). However, it seems they're not doing that during the French school holiday period, which is when you're planning to be here.
Take a look at the Cham weather/snow report thread, there are a few people arriving in the next few weeks who are looking for off piste cohorts – you may be able to get together with them to hire a guide, which will be cheaper.
The other option is to ask on Cham Social (actually, you could try looking for accommodation there too).
For accommodation, try:

http://www.myfrenchchalet.com/chamonix_apartments/index.php
http://http://www.chamsocial.com/
I'm sure there are many more but those are the ones I know of.
Good luck and get in touch when you get to Cham.

i'd think that the fun police and the likes on chamsocial will just have a pop at anyone looking for anything other than a fully qualified guide...most regular posters on there seem to spend there time looking for reasons to argue!

Ah, I don't think yariv_har is asking for a non-qualified guide, he's asking for a means to enjoy the services of a guide but not at the price it will cost for just him and his friend.

yariv_har, there's a lot of off piste in the Chamonix area that any well equipped reasonably competent skier can do without a guide. There are a couple of guide books. Unless you really know what you are doing avoid glacier skiing.

In fact we are equipped well, and maybe is the time that we could do off piste by our self, if I want to start what is the easy book to start, and what is the recommended trail for to start to do offpist by our self.
thanks

You know it makes sense.

A decent book is Chamonix Off Piste by Francois Burnier and Dominique Potard. A good place to start is the Combe Lachenal and the Crochue bowls in Flégère but other more experienced people may have a different view.
The good thing about Cham is that everything between the pistes is skiable, as long as you know where you will eventually end up.
