we are looking at booking with Crystal and are novices, my son has skiied once and his partner not at all <(my husband and I will be walking).
There are different catogories for ski hire and it is mind bogglng to us, are the skis different for absolute beginners?

Being beginners, I would recommend booking 'the cheapest' -- others, more qualified on here may disagree. When starting out, learning basic technique will be paramount, and the cheapest hire skis will be more tailored to the casual/ beginners at any rate.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yes it's true, more expensive skis will generally be stiffer and heavier and so harder to turn and use for your beginners.

Yes, beginners' skis are softer flexing and it's easier to turn them. I would expect entry level skis to be cheaper to rent - they are definitely cheaper to buy. But just to be on safe side pick some skis and do little online research to make sure they are suitable for beginners. If skis are grouped by price only there might be a chance of getting some old race skis which won't be suitable at all.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

You can realistically just book the cheapest category for a beginner.
When the hire shop technician asks, "Are you a good skier?" the best answer is: "No, I am a beginner". That way, the technician will pick the appropriate (usually soft-flexing) boots/skis that are best suited to a beginner.
