Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

It varies on the place you are going to. Ask in advance - and make sure you have the cash alternative if in doubt: I've got so used to paying cash in Austria that anywhere which takes cards is a pleasant surprise

Welcome. Was in Maria Alm a couple of weeks ago. In town I used cards in shops, in a hotel for a meal and at the ski hire shop (where I also bought my lift pass). I didn't actually try to use a card to pay on the hill. I assumed it would be cash there. But no problems that I found in the town.

IME most of the resort shops take cards, and so do lift pass offices.

But very few of the mountain huts do.

Have you considered pre-loading a EuroCard such as Caxton. Exchange some money at an ATM for pocket money and use the card for hire/passes/hotels. Top up on your IPad/smartphone from your current account debit card.

Good way to budget for a holiday too.

Yet, a couple of years ago, the lift pass office in St Anton would take credit cards but not prepaid debit ones. We had to go to the machine round the corner and withdraw a fist-full of cash and then pay with that.

Generally in resort cards are no problem, on the hill many places will only take cash (the ones most likely to take card are the big restaurants in prominent lift stations).
