Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi,
Finally taken the plunge and booked Banff for next March. Staying in the Caribou Hotel as recommended by a number of people. Took a look at the website www.SkiBig3.com and thought about booking the lift passes and skis on-line. I also had a look at the forward rate of the Canadian dollar against the pound and decided it made sense to book early as the pound's taking a tumble. Already dropped from C$2.2:£1 to C$2.1:£1 and dropping to less than C$2 by the time I get there.
I thought it sensible to seek the combined wisdom of Snowheads in case I'm making a bigga mistake. So, what do you guys and gals think about booking early and on-line via the website?
I'm looking at 8 days lift pass (with 3 days grace) and mid-performance skis (wife and I) for 10 days. We intend to take in a few of the other attractions while we're there; Calgary, glacier, etc. Any other recommendations welcome.
Thanks in advance.

harryok525, Have you booked through a tour operator or direct with resort. the tour operators will have a fixed price for lift passes booked before you go check out what they want. If you have booked direct then its a gamble bearing inmind the downward ten at the moment it might be a good idea. Its one I,m thinking about as I am there end of January for 14 days. The Caribou is a good choice central and easy for the ski buses they stop out side.
For every 0.1 rate change drop your lift pass will cost £11.00 more if you have 3 or 4 to buy this could soon mount up if its just you then not so bad.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Russell - Thanks. I'm going with Inghams and I'll revisit my booking and see what the costs are there. I've also taken heed from the posts on the forums about Monarch and have asked for upgrades to Premium seats.
Thanks.

We are likely getting our tri area passes from ski independence..... their rate is £230 gor a 10 of 12 days pass, somewhat better than you can get direct (with current exchange conditions)

Harry,
If you want, I have an email attachment which details the current Banff/LL/Norquay offers. The thing which has swung us 9from going for a hotel ski package) is the inclusion of the ski bus.... you can very rapidly rack up a good bill with 4 people travelling at $20 each return!

Buns - Great. Can you e-mail it to me please. There's 8 of us in total (up to now) so should get me a couple of free beers!
