On the assumption that alternative distractions might be enjoyed whilst in Flachau I was wondering if there were any local bars where I might take the kids to experience traditional Austrian Oompah style apres.

Megamum, how wild do you want to go?
The DampfKessel at the bottom of Spacejet 1 is very loud , dancing on the bar etc, gets going at about 4, gets really mental by 6, and goes on to about 9.I have taken my kids when they were as old as yours and they got a bit bored after an hour.
The Purzelbaum just above Dampfkessel is probably the best party hut in the area, but be warned, every day at 4pm they have semi naked dancers on the bar, probably not too suitable but if you fancy a few beers with me up there I think you would enjoy it 
The Hofstadl and Flachauer Gutshof maybe your best bet, if you are taking the kids along, and the Flachauer Gutshof often has live "oompah" bands , although later on, usually about 8pm.
What about a sledging evening? There are a few huts here that do a meal, and live music with a sledge down, they would probably enjoy that

kooky, there was some Austrian music to be heard in the more Austrian/less Italian bits of the Dolomites I skied last week and I quite liked some of it.

Pedantica, K1 and Giggeralm at Reischach (Kronplatz)? I was there a few days ago and you could have been in Austria. Same goes for the Luiskeller in Selva.

Pedantica, Yep, an interesting area. Taking to locals at a bar in Bruneck (Brunicio), they all supported FC Bayern and would rather be a part of Austria or have an independent South Tyrol. When the DJ played an Italian song at the K1 nobody danced but when he put on the Schwimm, Schwimm, Schwimm song the crowd went mental!

We went to the DAMPFKASSEL at about 4pm one night and left 2.5hrs later..... totally shitfaced. It was ace... I think.

Megamum, the Flachauer Gutshof that kooky refers to is the Musistadl; tends to be live pop band rather than oompah IME recently, but they do play "cheese". I think the music starts at 9ish. It is signposted from the main village just before you get to the Spar. The Hofstadl is near the World Cup run but I think it's a bit too grown up for the minimums later in the evening
