Hello,
I am looking for some recommendations for a snowboard boot. I am looking for something with quite a high stiffness (the stiffer the better) but also as cheap as possible. As i'm using them with a 3 strap rocker binding i need to ensure it doesn't use that twist to tighten thing as i have been told it will interfeer with the binding,
Any advice would be appreciated.

jeez that's a terrible idea IMO - lots of scope for nasty lower leg fractures if it's designed not to release although I guess the theory is it's not as bad as snapping over the top of a rigid boot.
As to the question - stiff and cheap don't usually come together as the stiffest boots tend to come at the top of the ranges. Check something like the Salomon Malamute or anything badged high end freeride. There are a lot of terrible snowboard boots.

I know that non releasables always seem like a bad idea but like you say it is better than over a ridged boot. These bindings are going on my Revel8 Condor boards. these will be purely powder boards as i have my Lacroix Titinal 110s with Line FF Cams for the piste.

Burn that awful binding and then start looking for boots.
Salomon Malamute (as above) or top-end Deelux would be good places to start.
If it's for a powder set-up, I have no idea why you want it to be ultra stiff.

I use a medium flex deelux boot with the rocker binding on Snowjam 90's. Works really well. The binding itself will supply all the lateral stiffness you require.

I think they're someones homemade design and they're trying to raise capital. Posting on every forum under the sun means they can present to some investor with "a massive level of interest as shown by the number of visitors to our website". Maybe?

Which bit are we talking about?
Urban_freestyle looking for a way to use soft boots with skiboards? (bad idea, go for hard boots)
or the snowboard binding that they're touting on the website with the lateral hinge made of pig-iron and polypipe? (probably equally bad idea). Can't quite get my head around the problem it's trying to solve, having lateral flex is one thing, having a mobile pivot point is something else completely. Imagine it'd feel horribly loose and slow to respond.

Yeah rogg that was Urban_freestyle - don't know if he was planning to use the hinged ones or just the 3-point binding.
Looks like someones beaten him to market (for skis at least) with that APEX system that did the rounds last month - http://apexskiboots.com/
a 3 point ski binding which uses a boot which looks an awful lot like a stiff snowboard boot. A thousand bucks though

Richard_Sideways, I thought the idea had merit. As long as you could use the same boot in different frames for snowboarding, alpine, touring and telemark.

Masque, hmm not sure - particularly as these are being marketed from a comfort perspective. Testimony on here says that properly fitted boots shouldn't be uncomfortable, and the services of an expert boot fitter coupled with a new properly sized boot will cost less than the Apex system.
However, like you say, I also agree that the system has merit, maybe thinking in terms of those wanting to use it as a boot for a split board, using a tele binding rather than an ascent snowboard binding.

Richard_Sideways, Since I've been telemarking I'm moving to the thought that with the adoption of wide skis the need for rigid boots is not as important as how to transfer our force into the ski. We all have relatively soft flexible liners whatever our choice to slide on and it's only the outer framework that supports that liner that differs . . . why not reduce that framework to only what is structurally necessary?
I think the Apex system has a long way to go . . . if there's enough interest to follow it.

Erik bradshaw did some touring about 800km across the southern alps and onwards using homemade www.exobindings.com that removes from the hiking boot they also locally made some skis as his snapped in half.
This guy likes to move light and fast without any fuss a real hardy 1% percenter you may find it interesting reading in comparison too the apex stuff givern his achievement from a nz perspective.
