Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Have the chance to nip up from Centre Parcs in Cumbria to Scotland to ski, the week after next. Where is best to ski, keeping in mind that I think its kids half term? I am a light intermediate and will just be looking for cruise around pistes for a day whilst the rest of the family cycle round a forest in the rain!!
Does anyone have any advice as where is best to go etc?

, do a search - there are some useful local threads. The people in the know reckoned that the ski areas in Scotland were likely to be hideously crowded at half term. Most said they wouldn't bother, IIRC

Any reason why the rest of the family are cycling around a forest and not trying out a snowsport? CairnGorm and Glenshee probably best fit your bill, Glenshee will be a shorter drive distance wise, and with local kids back in school is also likely to be quieter than CairnGorm during the week commencing Mon 18th.

Cairngorm will be crowded. Glenshee will probably be busy on the Aberdeenshire holiday (Monday) but any other day should be quiet. The best runs at Glencoe and Nevis are not 'light intermediate' but you could ski off every lift at Glenshee. Only 3 or 4 runs are steep there. It's by far the best place for easy cruising. Great blue/greens in Butcharts Coire and make sure you do the red off Meall Odhar and the blue off the top of MO into Coire Fionn. Also the best way to Glas Maol. If you go for lunch early you can catch the sun on the terrrace of the Cairnwell Cafe. The hard stuff is easily avoided being right at the edges of the ski area. Just check the forecasts on MWIS, met office and winterhighland for wind speeds and weather. MWIS overdo the wind speeds though. If the weather is better on the west, Glencoe would be my next choice, just don't go left off the top lifts.
Edited because the local hol is this monday coming, not the week after. Hardly anyone south of Edinburgh has heard of Glenshee, it'll be quiet during the week any day. Planning on running 21 lifts today there.
