Poster: A snowHead

Hi, does anyone know of French equivalent to 'Fuel Doctor' or similar. A friend travelling thru France today has put Petrol in a diesel car.
It seems there is no one available till Monday to drain, anyone know of companies who drain and get you going again?

Better that way round than the other! Do you know how much he put in? Has he driven it anywhere?
My son put a few litres of petrol in one of our diesels but realised and put a load more diesel in. No problem and apparently years ago petrol was a frequent additive to diesel. On the other hand when I did it I did not realise till the car chugged to a standstill and the RAC towed me home My husband did have to drain it out but fortunately no damage was done
I know the RAC and AA offer a draining service at the roadside in this country for around £250 because my RAC tow told me so, but I don't know the French equivalent. Someone else on here probably will though.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The Norfolk Nippers, Maybe the RAC or AA will be able to advise you.

The Norfolk Nippers, mrs jbob has done this twice! I fixed it both times. Luckily she hadn't driven far but it was a full tank both times on an empty one.
-don't run the engine
-get 5/10 gals of diesel in cans
-get empty 5 gal can
-get two small rubber tubes
-glass of water
Insert both tubes into tank, make a seal best you can around filler, insert the other end of one tube in the empty can, insert the other end of the other tube in your mouth and blow. Once the syphon is established the petrol will drain into the empty can. Wash mouth with water. Take great care to avoid setting fire to the petrol. Once tank is empty refill with diesel. Job done.
Alternatively use a local garage.
Mrs jbobs car had an anti syphon device but a more sophisticated one might stop this method.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Be very very very careful with this method. Saw a man with a diesel inhalation injury once. He was impressively unwell (several days on ECMO (essentially heart lung bypass)and a long intensive care stint after that) and buggered his lungs so that he required home oxygen 24hours a day. I believe petrol can cause similar.

BertIsfantastic, agreed, the advantage of this method is that there is no sucking needed, but it's not without it's discomforts and risks.

If it's only a small amount of petrol just get him to top up the tank as far as possible and not flog the engine. Drive a bit - top up again and so on.
If it's a larger amount and/or it's a rental then don't take the risk and syphon - it's a specific fault to do this to rental cars ('cos it happens a lot) and they usually have a punative 'fee' if it's detected. Try getting a hand syphon with the tanks at the petrol station - they sometimes have them. If there is a supermarket around go there first for the syphoning kit - they are generally better equipped and much, much cheaper than car 'specialists'.

Hate to tell you this but most modern cars have a screen in the filler pipe that prevents you from syphoning fuel out. I had to sell a Touran with a full tank of diesel recently because of this

Then you drain from the exit pipe on the fuel pump. Detach the existing pipe and attach a piece of rubber pipe to the exit side of the pump with the clip in place then turn the engine over a few times after inserting the other end of the pipe into a jerry can or the like. The pump acts in place of a syphon. Ensure the battery level is good before trying this and you better be careful and ensure all the pipes are carefully and cleanly reattached when finished - DO NOT over tighten.
