Poster: A snowHead
|
Apologies if this isn't the right place to put this post, I wasn't sure - if it's not supposed to be here, I'm happy to take it down/relocate.
Having just got back from a seriously kick-ass week in La Plagne today, I'm jonesing for another fix this season! We normally only get away once per season, and usually during the cheap part of January, so I'm not sure when else would be good (cost-wise) to look at getting out?
Any recommendations would be really appreciated. I'd prefer to go to France, and ideally via Eurostar, but if I'm likely to get a super cheap deal flying that's cool!
Thanks folks

From now on it gets steadily more expensive till mid March, then cheaper towards the end of the season. But the simple answer to your question is "now".

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The simple answer as pam w, says is now, the more complex one is any time that doesn't coincide with school holidays will be cheaper than during the school holiday period, but you need to consider French, German, Swiss, Dutch as well as English holiday times in that equation

Oh rats, I was worried that might be the case! Hopefully we can get a week in late on in the season then. At least we got spoilt rotten with great conditions this past week!

It can be cheap in France later in the season after the main holiday period finishes in mid March. A lot of the local accommodation owners also class the British Easter holiday weeks as low season so if you look in the right place you should find a good deal any time between mid March and the end of the season.

It's very much low season rates in France after mid-March but flight prices at Easter, from the UK, are stupidly high because it's school hols. DIY, with self-drive and renting at low season rates is the way to go at Easter. Avoid the resorts where British TOs go and the slopes will not be too busy. The snow is usually excellent in the second half of March/early April - usual caveats apply. The second half of March is very often about the optimum time of the season (last year was a bit of an exception, but generally speaking that's true).

The very last week in March you'll save a day of holiday entitlement (assuming you work!) as your last ski day would be Good Friday. However, the return flight may be slightly more expensive (not as expensive as out going flights for first week in April though) given it's over a bank holiday weekend. As a result probably the third week in March might be a good shout.
Or as everyone else has said.... Now.

snowflakegirl,
Take 20-27th Jan week off and book it now - conditions are great and there are some really good last minute deals around. . . .
