Unpacked the boots last night and took the liners out. I noticed that there is about 3-4 mm of play in the boot at the cuff adjustment rivets where the cuff joins the clog. Inside the boot, the rivet looks solid, making me suspect that the damage is either in the outer part of the cuff adjustment mechanism or in the plastic of the clog itself. Obviously this isn’t ideal but I’m wondering whether there is a temporary fix for this, whether there is the possibility of catastrophic failure of the boot and whether I’m looking at a replacement. I’m not that keen on replacing right now as I am as poor as a church mouse but don't fancy them disintegrating on me either. I've just recovered from one season ending injury and am in no mood to sustain another.
FWIW the boots have seen over 150 days of skiing. If this is curtains, I was expecting them to have lasted a little longer but there we are. Opinions, help, abuse, etc. all welcome.

If it's not a removable rivet (that can be tightened up and fixed with threadlock) take the boot to a good bootfitter - they should be able to fix it even if they have to order replacement parts.

gorilla, you expected a boot to last more than 150 days of skiing? Seriously? For most skiiers that would be more than a decade of use. It sounds like the plastic has worn around the rivet. If it is just the cuff that is worn, it may be possible to buy a new cuff, but I've never heard of that. Whatever it is, the chances of having worn the rivet down seem very low, but perhaps drilling out the rivet and replacing it will fix it? If so a decent boot fitter might be able to help.

I hate getting new boots. If it is the cuff, which I think it is, then it looks like I'm about to spend more money I don't have. Cheers for the help, folks.

gorilla, everyone hates getting new boots, but 150 days? That is a lot. Are your current boots significantly modified? If not, worth looking for a secondhand pair the same, swap the liners over, they'll probably be just as good, and you've got a spare pair that you can nick bits off if you break a buckle etc.

gorilla, what boot? exactly what rivet? can you post me a picture.... if it is a press rivet you are looking at about £10-£15 for a new one to be pressed in, if a bolt type then even less...problem is you need a shop with a rivet press...and i am amazed by the number of shops who do not have this most basic bit of kit

But if you're a seasonnaire 150 days is less than 2 seasons. I'd expect the liner to be knackered but a modern shell should last that long.

CEM, Nordica Speedmachine 10. I think it is the 08/09 model. Iirc the newer ones have a three position cuff adjustment on them - this one is the previous version. Much appreciated - you/Andy McC did the fitting work on these and I need the cuff adjustment to work properly. You sure it is not likely to be the plastic?
