Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Thinking of staying here next month, if anyone has any experiance of staying would love to hear your comments. We are looking for half board, good food, near the lifts and preferably non smokng. Any other suggestions fr Hotels wpuld be great.

Hotel Josl is amazing. Its not entirely non smoking, the rooms are non smoking, but the bar isnt, but we had no problems. My GF has light asthma and didnt suffer.

Obergurl is beautiful ..The Josl is great , we used to have lunch there almost every day because the kids area was in the village part of Obergurgl so we met them for lunch ..we stayed in the Deutschmann , the Austria, the Hochfirst ...all hotels are equally good really ..the Edelweiss maybe the most convenient place to stay right next to the lifts and ski to the locker room almost !! We didnt eat out much , mostly stayed in hotel but as far as I can remember the Grumplstaedtl (sp ?)was a good eating place ...not too many eating out places in Obergurgl .. Hope this helps.

The Madeline was fantastic when we stayed there a few years ago - a bit of a walk to the lifts but not too bad - really nice food and they have updated the sauna since we were there. iirc they had cakes when you came back from skiing in the afternoon as well.

I've stayed here about 5 yrs and it was absolutely gorgeous. Family run, very friendly with a nice spa area too. The rooms were huge compared to the normal sardine cans I stay in when I go away with the lads. The walk isn't that bad to the lifts.
Definitely recommended.
