Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi
Hoping for a ski trip for a few days towards the end of Jan - and it all looks quite warm in the alps. Going to somewhere near Geneva again, and was just wondering which of the above resorts would be safest in terms of snow cover in a couple of weeks from now?
Thanks a lot

munchimo, I honestly think you'll be fine at either... Temps are forecast to drop so they'll have the cannon(s) running for the lower runs and both areas have access to plenty of high-level skiing.
I slightly prefer the Grand Massif to the PdS, but it's close

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

munchimo, both have excellent snow records and in January you should be ok! The link to Flaine can close sometimes due to bad weather but the same can happen anywhere else. There are plenty of tree runs in both ski areas so you should be fine either way. Morzine is more like a town with lots of aprés ski bars and restaurants. Samoens is smaller but it's very pretty. So it depends what you are after.

I don't think you could choose between the two on the basis of snow cover - so go for the other factors instead - they're very different.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Both great. I am biased towards the GM because I have an apartment in Samoens, but also drive up to Les Gets occasionally. As others have said, conditions will mirror each other as they are almost identical in terms of height and are very close to each other. samoens a little quicker to get to as the village is in the valley.

Flying or driving.
Personally would go to Morzine any time - so much more skiing and different skiing in areas and country (Swiss). If one is driving the Flaine week lift pass used to allow you a day in Les Gets (does anyone know whether it does still) so one can get away from Flaine for at least a day - don't know why I am a bit anti Flaine - some bits are a bit cold and exposed and don't really like the Flaine bowl itself but there is a lot of other wonderful skiing there as well.
