Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Best boot fitting shop in north east england?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey guys, I was wondering if you could give me advice on the best place to go for a ski boot fitting in the north east of england.

I am from newcastle. I usually go to LD Mountain Centre but dont want to go back anymore. I saw the ski shop at Xscape leeds and it looked awesome. Elis brigham? What are they like?

Any suggestions?

I had a really good experience at snow and rock Gateshead (I can check the receipt see if his name is on it) - I previously went all the way to London to Profeet to try and resolve my agony and ended up in just as much pain - happened to pop into snow and rock who were shocked not only at the state of the footbeds (which they kept as an example of how not to do it) and also the style of boot - they were Rossignol - not kidding absolute agony. I now have a pair of Atomic with the shell stretched and a custom footbed - skied on them last season - not a single problem, even do free adjustments is needed in the season if you try them and they need it.

Eddie or Jules at Ellis Brigham Castleford, think Jules might have left now. Eddie really is very very good though. Worth calling before you go and making sure he is working / free as, as it is a big chain there are other less experience boot fitters around.

migletski, they are a bit hit and miss though, I had mine foamed and they were perfect, my sons were agony and we bought some more in Chamonix.
They did however admit their mistake and give a full refund.

Sainter, as Chattonmill, says snow and rock are variable. My boots are from the gateshead shop and are a reasonable fit but i had to swap the originals for the next size down. I think the general approach for these shops is to go with the feel comfortable in the shop approach which becomes too big when you start using them. There are staff who are reasonable and if you have some knowledge yourself you can work with them to get the fit you want which is what I did. If I was buying boots again I would bite the bullet and try one of the specialist fitters recommended on here even though it will mean travelling.

Backcountry UK in Ilkley did a fantastic job for me. I was there about 4 hours and I now have boots I can wear all day no problem.

Hi the name on the receipt is Matthew Allport - I cant remember if the same guy fitted the boots and took payment - he was tall and thin (not much help I know) - seemed to work Friday evenings as it was usually a Friday evening we went in.

 You know it makes sense.

The guy who fitted my boots was strongly against the feels comfortable in the shop approach - several times I said I thought they might be half a size small but he persuaded me to try them - he was right - maybe I just got lucky with the person working on the day:lol:

+1 for Eddie @ Ellis Brigham Castleford. EB get a lot of stick on here but Eddie has now fitted 2 sets of boots for us and has done a stirling job each time. Takes ages though, mine took 4 hours and the girlfriends took about 3 hours.
