Poster: A snowHead
|
This season, buoyed up by our success at driving to the mountains last year, the Grey clan is driving to puy st vincent (southern alps). Mr Grey would like to stopover at a place with a pool, so the Greylings can have some fun. Can anyone suggest somewhere suitable? We're thinking maybe briancon or chambrey because we want to hit the slopes early the next day.
Thank you for any advice/suggestions.

grey, how old are the children, and when are you going to be skiing? The Hotel Alliey in Monetier-les-Bains has a pool, and there are a few hotels with pools around Grenoble which might be suitable. I'll try and find the links.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Briançon is just a few km from Puy St Vincent. Your problem will be finding a hotel with an indoor pool and in Briançon (which is part of Serre Chevalier) finding a hotel for one night only.
Did you consider Grenoble, the Hotel President has a pool. It is on the edge of a dodgy part of town so make sure they have secure parking.
The Cinq in Chambery has a swimming pool but check TripAdvisor etc for reviews.

Thank you for your thoughts. The kids are 7,6&6, but i suspect the 40yr old will also enjoy the pool!
I agree the problem will be with 1 night - will check out the suggestions.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

grey, if it's the Friday night before a big week (such as half term) you'll find nearby hotels already extremely booked up; you'll need to grab a room quickly, if you can find one, without worrying too much about the frills.

IIRC the Mercure hotel at the Grande Boucle ronde point in Briancon has an indoor pool. It used to be called the Alpe Hotel. Also the Plein Sud in Chantemerle has one too. Both would be ideal for family. Plein Sud looks from the website to have same owner who is Brit or Irish [been a long time since we stayed there but it looks like the woman in the pix].

The thermal baths in Monetier Les Bains in serre chevallier are great, there are several indoor pools where you can swim or relax, also an outdoor thermal pool that you can swim in, all of which are part of the same complex, we had an afternoon there when we stayed in Chantemerle. the children will love it.

ymh, that was why I was checking how old the kids are as they have to be over 4 years of age, but it is not attached to a hotel, and most of them won't be doing a single night booking during the ski season.
