Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Geneva Airport to Courchevel cheapest transfer?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Guys,

Not sure if this is the correct section, but i'm asking the question anyway!

Looking for the cheapest way to get from the airport to courcheval (1650).

If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be great, the best price so far is £100 return.

There is 4 of us going, not sure if car hire is a reasonable option. The car wouldnt be used through the week to be honest!

Thanks in advance,

Dave

BlueBird13, we use http://www.snowboundtransfers.co.uk/ and I think they now offer a shared transfer service. If there are four of you it might be worth sending them an email and see what they can provide.

Car hire was the best option for us last time we did it. We hired on the french side of geneva and saved quite a lot of money on hire fees. If you have your own skis/boards, an estate car would cost say £350 (i.e. £87.50 each). If you don't have your own skis/boards a smaller car might be more like £250 (£62.5 each). You have to factor in a bit of fuel and tolls, but on the plus side you can stock up on supplies en route. It works out much cheaper again for a short weekend break.

Bear in mind that if you hire on the French side of GVA airport, the upfront cost may be cheaper, but you may have to pay extra for the Swiss carnet, snow tyres/chains, or even worse, you may not be able to get them supplied at all, which means you may be turned around on the mountain roads by the Gendarmes if conditions are bad. Not the best start to the holiday...

Train Return to Moutier is about CHF80 per person on the train (http://www.sbb.ch/home.html). If you do plan to drive, factor in parking costs as well - they can add up.

"From Geneva Airport to Courchevel:

Various companies offer airport transfers to Courchevel and can drive you by minibus from door to door or to wherever you like. Some of these companies are offering good value services.

Another option is to hire a car. You can do this from the French or Swiss sides of Geneva airport. You might want to take into consideration a few things before hiring your car:
- hiring a car on the French side is usually slightly cheaper.
- if you choose to hire a car on the French side, don't drive back to Switzerland, otherwise you will have to pay a vignette (a tax disc to allow you on Swiss motorways).
- if you're hiring from Geneva, fill up here as Petrol is quite a bit cheaper than in France.
- consider asking for ski racks and snow tyres or chains if you think you need them.

There is a train station at the airport. You can choose to take a train to Moutiers which is the nearest town to Courchevel but 2 changes are required. The first is at Geneva Central and the second one is at Chambery. Trains leave daily from Geneva.

Buses and Taxis are an alternative. A taxi for up to 4 people will cost approximately €275. The bus service operating from Geneva is Alpski-bus. There are about 7 to 8 buses per day and it takes round 3.15 hours to get to Courchevel with 1 change in Moutiers. One Way tickets cost 70 euros and a round trip ticket costs 118 euros. One way & round trip tickets are half price for children from 4 to 12 years old. The group fare is available for 4 adults travelling together both ways (tarrif 105 euros/person). Reconfirm your return 2 days in advance at the Tourist Office. Tel Altibus +33 (0)4 79 68 32 96.
