Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

recommendations for accommodation in or near Saalbach

My son is thinking of going in February for a month , he will have a car and is looking for cheap accommodation in or near Saalbach , I 'd say he would have a better chance of finding some place outside wouldn't he ?..Any recommendations ?

alicia, Agreed - the chances of finding anything for a month in the village in Saalbach in high season are pretty minimal, so two suggestions:

Stay outside of either Saalbach or Hinterglemm - e.g. Jausern or Viehofen at the Saalbach end or Lengau at the Hinterglemm end of the valley. There are free ski busses from 9.00 to 17.00 and hourly Postbuses, as well as a Nightliner on selected nights (see www.saalbach.com). There is free parking at the lift stations if you get the parking ticket validated in the ticket office before you take the lift.

As he has a car, he may consider staying in Maishofen, which is at the entrance to the valley. From there, he can bus/drive to Saalbach or Zell am See, and as he'll be buying a season ticket anyway, he can buy a Ski Alpin Card for €540 that covers Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang and Zell am See-Kaprun. €620 buys a Salzburger Super Ski Card, which covers the Ski Alpin areas plus lots of other resorts within 30 mins of Maishofen, such as Maria Alm and Lofer. If he has no success in Maishofen, an alternative town would be Saalfelden, which is further from Saalbach, but closer to the other Salzburgerland resorts.

Thanks for that very useful information Quinton..He had Viehofen in mind so he will have a look at that .

Hi I have just booked SC apartment for 26th Jan with Alpine Apartments that I found through www.home away.co.uk

There are quite a few properties with varying number of beds/prices.

Booked v close to Saalbach centre as it is my fav resort Very Happy
