Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Running Smock = ski jacket?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm thinking of picking up a Inov-8 Raceshell jacket or OMM Kamleika Race Smock for trail running etc. Their pricey (for me) at €150 approx but if I could use as ski jacket it could justify the splurge. I'm buying online so can't examine one. I have a northface insulated winter/ski jacket but its a bit big for me and I while its super warm I find it a bit bulky, heavy and too warm.... except on a cold, sleety day on a slow chair!

If anyone has used race smock similar to above I's appreciate any feedback... I'm thinking a good base layer or too and the inov-8 would work on slope?

Thanks

my concern would be durability

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It'll do the job just fine, so long as you have a suitably warm mid layer. The fabric isn't the most robust, so you might not wanna go throwing yourself into tree branches and the like. On the days when the OMM top won't be warm enough, the north face jacket will be ideal.

Thanks folks, the durability issue is more likely to arise during apres ski for me and perhaps the last stretch home. I'm a timid enough intermediate so stay away from the trees. I do take the odd tumble though and have a few disagreements with chair lifts! I think I'll invest and use on less cold days as Serriadh suggests...
