Comedy Goldsmith, they made boots once before didn't they (talking 40 odd years ago)? Some nasty incident with toxic fumes in the factory - didn't someone die? Brought a whole new meaning to "my boots are killing me".
Anyway, I'm sure they'll be very nice.

Comedy Goldsmith, This bit:
Quote: |
A K-2 boot is nothing new. They had a butt ugly yellow/green 2-buckle model in the early 70's. The lower shell was a solid 1-piece with no flaps over the instep for closure or fit. It was virtually impossible to enter through the narrow opening on the top. The lower could be adjusted for "fit" by turning 4 screws on the sole that would push a plate up and crush the top of your foot in the shell. The upper had two buckles and tilted back slightly at the hinge points to supposedly enlarge the opening for boot entry. I don't recall how long it was on the market, but I have a pair in my collection of hysterical ski gear. |

K2 were known to give more profit to the trade on skis than any other manufacturer, so perhaps their boots will become popular very soon.

K2 is owned by a Brit. 48-year-old Martin Franklin (born in London) runs Jarden Corporation, which has 20,000 employees worldwide. Jarden's brands also include Volkl and Marker but it operates in numerous other mainstream product areas.

Comedy Goldsmith, AFAIK, in the 70s both Olin and K2 made boots and they made them out of a very nasty elastomer that had to be handled and poured into a mould rather than injection-moulded. There were major health and safety issues and they were a bug to put on. Boots ceased soon after launch. Anyway, a K2 boot isn't new.

Of course they're bloody new. You think they're going to palm off some 40-year-old plastic fossils?

Comedy Goldsmith, So who have they bought? None of his other brands has boot experience and as Salomon and Atomic know, one needs it.

Cynic, they own Full Tilt boots, which took over the production moulds (as I understand it) of Raichle.
In full, in terms of ski brands ...
5150Snowboards®, Atlas Snow Shoes®, Full Tilt®, K2 Alpine Touring®, K2 Skate ®, K2 Skis®, K2 Snowboards®, Karhu®, Line®, Madshus, Marker®, Morrow®, Ride®, Tubbs Snow Shoes®, and Volkl®.

That explains the Raichle toe box shape and hinge, the back looks Fischer/Head, so perhaps they have created the Pastiche boot, as inspector Morse defined "something created from parts borrowed". Us fans of the Flexon Comp hope the "cuckoo clock" hinge holds together better than on the original, particularly if used for touring; although they perhaps will also carry a spare round thingermy which holds the hinge together when the original springs out.

I had Nordica Astral Slalom boots that colour back in 1975. Bloody nice 'respect the mountain' colour.
