Poster: A snowHead
|
My husband has decided he doesn't want to ski this year but I'm still keen to go as is my son who is 7 (8 in Feb.), I also have a daughter who is 2 nearly 3.
I'm thinking of either the Feb half term but we can't leave until the Monday which takes out most of the tour operators as they have a Saturday change-over. Or wait until after Easter.
Does anyone have thoughts on our options?
And/or is there anyone who would like to hook up with us?
Anny

Timbobaggins, I'm fairly new to this. What's the problem? What do I need to watch out for?

Timbobaggins, according to google you have little to worry about, the site is for the supply of baby products such as real nappies and organic baby products

Easter in one of the higher resorts will be fine. Me and two of my daughters (now 13 and 8 but have been doing this since the youngest was 4). Have a look at the snowheads family bash, it officially runs Sat to Sat maybe you could work something out with admin!

anny@realnappiness.co.uk, welcome to snowheads, you could try snowcoach, you can travel by all options including the default coach option, but they do different durations of stay, 3,4,5, 8 and 10 day trips I think so you might be able to sort something, 3/4 board is usually included so easy and cheap with kids, they used to do single parent discounts also.

anny@realnappiness.co.uk, welcome to snowheads. I'd definitely go for Easter, at one of the resorts with access to high skiing (though very often late March/early April would be absolutely fine in lower places too).
You'll have far cheaper prices, longer days, much less crowded slopes and be able to use a TO for a full week's skiing. No-brainer, I'd say.
More difficult is whether to take the 2/3 year old. That's still very little for skiing (one of my grand-daughters will be that age this season and though she's quite well coordinated, and quite good on her scooter, I think only a little very gentle sliding, probably with me, will be on the menu).
If you just take the lad you could have a very special time together, doing a lot more. The toddler would make it a very different holiday unless you could afford to go with an operator like Esprit who will take as much of the child-care off your shoulders as you wish.

Thanks for the replies
As I don't use forums much hadn't thought about the context of the User Name - having had 2 children I have significantly reduced brain cells and a lack of sleep, so find it easier to use my e-mail address as a user name on anything I have to log into!!!
I think Easter looks like the most likely option from your comments. I wasn't planning on the youngest on skiing so would need some sort of childcare, we have used in resort childcare in Serre Chevalier before which worked quite well although it was very quiet, any experiences of this?

If you can go with Esprit it will be a very easy option they have nursery, kids clubs and escort and help children during lessons. We are going with them on 14th April to St Anton, they do some single parents specials look at their website at the Family Offers page

Pila in Italy is pretty kid friendly, as is Italy in general. 1800 metres and up, and easy to get back to your accommodation and the kids slopes. Worth a delve, possibly. Cheap flight to Turin and then public transport or organised transfer. I can't remember when half term is this year, as due to the local crisis I've been laid off from my schools, but better snow conditions than easter, although it is quite early this year.

+1 for Pila easy transfer from Turin if you can get an easy flight there. We have to go via Geneva (which is an hour longer+tunnel) but cant get to Turin from here.
Speak with Carol at pilaski.co.uk she will sort you out for everything bu the flights.
