Poster: A snowHead

Looking to spread our wings out of Lofer after this year and we were thinking of maybe Leogang. How good is Leogang, would it be a busier resort than Lofer which is relatively quiet.

Definitely quieter than Saalbacj / Hinterglem for example in the next door vally. You need to bus to the main lifts (can ski back if you are lucky) at Haus (?) which is even smaller set of hotels clustered around the lifts. Nice, pretty village though and good local skiing and restaurants on the mtn - pretty easy to get to the main circuit as well I found.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

2waterford, Part of Saalbach area so much bigger (and probably busier than Lofer, but not as busy as Saalbach). It is great area with brilliant runs. The one under gondola in Leogang is superb long, wide and not steep.

Leogang has great skiing and, as mentioned, offers the option of skiing in Saalbach/Hinterglemm too. The Leogang area itself is not that large but, if you add Saalbach and Hinterglemm to it, it is massive. It can be busy at holiday periods but where isn't? I think Wildsmith is referring to Hütten (where he mentions Haus).
I agree with Tom W that the piste by the gondola is very enjoyable, although I feel the section below the middle station is quite steep (though there is a blue variant). In general the runs in Leogang (above the gondola) are steeper than the central runs in Lofer (more like the upper sections of the pistes down from the Grubhörndl in Lofer, pistes 2 and 3). But generally they are still wide enough and not too challenging for intermediate skiers.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I can recommend the hotel at the bottom of the gondola in Leogang Haus - salzburger hof. It's really very nice. We can't afford it in winter these days but have been in summer and it's fab. Went skiing many moons ago there and all I would say is that it's prob not the ideal resort for novices or those not happy on reds because the links over to S-H are red IIRC. Aside from that and providing you're not after thumping nightlife, I think it's got a lot going for it.
