Has anyone done this? How much did it cost? I've looked on the train sites but they don't have prices or schedules for next ski season yet.
Thanks

Mike3000, Done it several times for about 33Eu . . . but DON'T go for the direct route, not many journeys and long waits for connections (anything up to 5 hours) I've found it more comfortable spending a bit more journey time in a warm train than sitting around a cold station by going from GVA to Lyon and then go to Bourg from there. There are 3 times as many journeys available doing this and it only costs about 7 Eu more. The Summer price is the same as Winter so just check for next month to see timetables and prices. Treat it as two separate journeys and not 1 from GVA to BsM.

I'm not sure what you guys call the "direct route", but I'd normally take Geneva-Chambery direct (1hr 20 mins) then Chambery-Moutiers (times vary). Stay on at Moutiers for BSM

Patch, That's the 'direct route' you're given by the booking system. If it ties in with your flights that's sweet. I like early in and late out flights so the Lyon detour has worked better for me on the last three occasions.

Masque, I'd never even considered that it might be quicker via Lyon ... I'll check that in future

Patch, There are more frequent trains from Geneva to Lyon and from Lyon to BsM and rather than sit around in Chambery the train's warmer

Although get the right train, and you can do Paris to Moutiers in around 3 hours - takes from 6 to 9 to drive, depending on traffic

genepi, I've had 4 with changes and 2 without, journey time from 2:15 to 2:45 . . . this is just an option if the more direct route doesn't match your travel plans..
rob@rar, never flown into Lyon Airport but I imagine it's around 2.5 hrs

Thanks. Wonder if there's a direct service from Lyon Airport to BsM?

Shame that. Surely there is enough demand for one direct service a day, if only on Saturday and Sundays?

rob@rar, I agree. It was annoying for our daughter when she was in Lyon for a year - but she & her Lyonais bf looked into it to no avail They ended up driving there whenever they could.

Anyone know if trains work late at night on the Lyon detour, as it's called.
Getting into Geneva on a Saturday night and rather than wait for the next morning's Altibus, was thinking of that option.

I've tried it and it's difficult to do without keep changing trains, which isn't great if you are trying to carry your own kit. The bus is by far the best option in my opinion being direct and is quicker but a bit more expensive at 60 euros. They are pretty regular on Saturdays and I have turned up at the airport and booked it last minute at the info desk at the airport. You MUST phone the number on the ticket to reconfirm your return.
