After a cheeky look at the webcams have seen all the cannons blasting onto a thin layer of snow. must be expecting it to stick around and build a base!! We might be skiing on that. Sad i know but hey its something to look forward too.

Unless it was fairly high up, it's maybe a questionable use of resource.
Having said that, getting some man made down as a base, if you're pretty sure it won't melt, is a good idea. Unfortunately some resorts have a habit of overdoing it, and hedging their bets a bit. I remember a day last season skiing on horrible crusty man made sandpapery crap, just a day or so after an absolutely humungous natural snowfall.

The horrible man-made stuff can also help stabilise a natural snow fall in helping to build a base. It's not nice to ski on but it can help maintain the base in the longer term.
