Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all, my first post! I have 2 young(ish) kids, (11 & 8 ) and we are very much looking forward to our family ski holiday in Ellmau (2nd visit) . It will be our first one skiing as a family, as we have all been in separate ski schools up to now. I know that there are going to be occasions when the kids (and grown ups!)are getting tired and we are trying to get them and all associated ski stuff from A to B. Does anybody have any recommendations on these ski holder type things that help you carry your skis on your shoulder and then fold up in your pocket. Are any of them any good, or should I just grin and bear the thought of carrying 2 sets of poles and skis as best I can?

Make 'em carry their own!! My 2 started at 11 and 13 and I've never carried their gear.
Get them used to it now!!!

Gazza871, They're generally pretty rubbish tbh. I bought a couple of different types when my daughter was younger to make it easier for her to carry her skis. Neither got any use really. 11 is definitely plenty old enough

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Gazza871, anyone I know who has bought ski carriers hasn't used them.
I agree that there might be occasions when you might need to assist the 8 yr old but get them carrying their own and small skis aren't too bad to carry as well as your own if you have chosen accommodation wisely

yep, get 'em to learn to carry their own, all part of the fun I don't see why not at 11 & 8 they can't, "when I was a kid" - first trip aged 6, I was shown how to use the poles to carry the skis, by looping the straps through, upto the bindings...then carrying by your side...bit tricky to explain, the downside is getting the balance wrong and the skis slipping out of the strap loops and it all ending up in a heap!
quick google search and looks like someone has come up with a pole solution for this....http://braveskimom.com/can-your-poles-really-carry-your-skis-quickpoles-review-and-giveaway
possibly a bit of a gimmick!
good luck!

Skisling, from paths in town, to off piste flogging, excellent product, use a ski tie instead of supplied one for fat skis. I bought ten trade and got 100% profit on all of them after being accosted on where to purchase. However they were £3.99 then, I note a rip off £12.99 in S&R.
