Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

FIS World Cup Telemark Parallel Sprint Feb 2012

Thought I'd re-post this from the Piste section as it's definitely Snowsports related:

Interesting video of the recent FIS World Cup Telemark Parallel Sprint event (a dual sprint race format comprising gates, a jump, a 360 deg berm and short cross country section) in Rjukan, Norway. The first few minutes of the video are from a film about the life of 19th Century ski pioneer and inventor of the Telemark turn, Sondre Norheim. It's a facebook link, but the video is set to public, so anyone should be able to view it:

(Incidentally, Rjukan in Norway was also the location of the heavy water plant that was the object of the successful "Heroes of Telemark" WW2 commando raid).

IMV Telemark racing is long overdue in the Winter Olympics (by quite a few decades you could argue... Toofy Grin )

Awesome - though the race stuff lacks something to make it big on the telly - always wondered if they went telemark in just the same disciplines as the downhill stuff whether the audience might grow - would lose the purist vibe but by all acou ts the current race scene is a small one. I telemark and would indeed love to see it in Olympics, just not sure current format would cut it?

Regarding the Heroes of Telemark, them dudes trained for the mission in the Cairngorms, and the Glenmore and Rothiemurchus forests, the cairngorm plateaux being pretty comparable to the Hardanger Plateau. For those familiar with aviemore area, the team were based in drumintoul lodge just past coylumbridge on the ski road (and i believe the old glenmore lodge - now youth hostel. Great story, couple of good books about it available.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Alastair Pink, Don't think enough nNations compete in Telemark at a high enough level to make it an Olympic sport yet. Just look at the gap at World cup races for the top 15 in the Sprint for example, almost 30 seconds for Women and 8 seconds for men in a 1.34 min race. Alpine Super G for example is around 2-3 secs for both men & women.
