Anyone any thoughts?
TUV approved etc, look ideal. Anyone seen them/used them/heard anything about them?

Can scratch the roof if dirty.
Not terribly theft proof.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Some years back I had a rental car in the US which had a magnetic ski carrier fitted. They were generally OK, although on one occasion when I was driving and there were strong cross winds I heard the magnetic attachments start to slide slightly, so I quickly pulled into the side of the road and repositioned them!

Have used them once quite a few years ago. They were fine; easy to put on and held the skis with no bother.

Yeah, make sure the roof is clean before attaching.

And the magnetic panel itself as well. I have scratched the car roof with them in the past. Also make sure there is no thin layer of ice on the roof. I have also ignored the advised speed limit for them and driven all the way across France at 80mph with no problems (though the first time there was a lot of peering up at the skis to try and judge if they'd moved).
I still have them but don't use them any longer as I now use a top box - decided I wasn't too happy with the skis being covered with salt from the road.

Never heard of these. Sound a good idea, though I'm a bit surprised they're allowed - wouldn't they exit the roof at a good lick and about head height in the event of a shunt?

They have metal cable leashes that you are supposed to shut into one of the car doors. So if they come off at speed they will severely trash your car's paintwork but shouldn't go flying into any other cars.
