Poster: A snowHead
|
Ski Racing 2006, described by its makers as a "fast and thrilling simulation", is touring European ski shows this autumn - including London, Manchester and Birmingham. It will launch in November, and is the work of JoWooD Games.
The game promises to simulate authentic race locations, including the Hahnenkamm. Racers include Hermann Maier and Daron Rahlves. It's for the Play Station 2, X Box and PC CD Rom formats.
The website is worth a look, with screenshots and trailer: http://www.skiracing2006.com
Any comments on what's previewed there? I don't do games (normally, though this one looks tempting!) so I haven't a clue. Apparently there was a Ski Racing 2005 - anyone see this?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Never heard of it, but just had a quick look at the trailer and have to say the slalom skier needs a new coach. He was so late in his turns it was hardly worth the effort of having gates. Wonder how realistic the courses are? That might be a fun element if you know a particular course.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

David, I tried the demo last year, but couldn't get it to work. Must admit to being fond of the Playstation snowboarding games, SSX - there are some very nice glidy through powder bits but you do have to remember that the tricks you can do aren't as easy in real life

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Ah, all becomes clear.
That's another Google service I've yet to try

The downside, and I'm sure David finds the same, is that if you're not too careful with the keywords you'll get quite a few alerts about Americans having jet ski accidents.

You can be quite clever with the search strings and elimitate that stuff, you can also get the alerts via RSS as well or just read it here a few minutes later of course.

I had the demo version of the 2005 version on my PC. It was quite impressive, but then I'm mad, and find that people who won't answer simple questions are rude, so you can ignore me.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Keywords can be tricky things, I set my TiVo to look for "skiing" and it recorded Pingu. Good cartoon really but it went downhill with the later 'hip' version.
