Hi all,
This might be quite a specific requirement, but wondering if anyone has any ideas.
my usual bunch of skiing companions are not able to go this season, so it looks like i will be going on my own. Ideally I am looking for a long weekend in january.
so.....
does anyone know of any companies that do 3 or 4 day off piste courses and accomodation packages? I want to improve off piste, have some expeirence but want to explore further afield and would love to do it with a specialist operator.
Any ideas?

Bass Chamonix are excellent, they do a course which includes both instruction and a guided day. I agree with mr brain cheat, you should have no probs getting a bed.

..and Piste to Powder in St Anton. Again they dont provide accom, but the guiding/tuition is excellent. I learnt more in 3 days with them than I did on another 5-day "course" elsewhere.

I found Simon Christy (he posts here as offpisteskiing) excellent for safety and excellent for instruction. Learned some gamechanging stuff last season.
I think he tends to do weeks only but you never know - and if he can't help, he might have a mate who can.

P2P are great, but I'm afraid they don't do weekends, they do Monday to Friday. However, if you can do any days mid week they are very flexible; you don't have to book Monday to Friday.

he does a couple of early season warm-up weekends which m ight be worth a look

I don't think this is true, though weekends might get booked out early on. I have booked with Graham Austick (owner and head guide) for Monday to Saturday in the second week of January (his January 2013 was booked out by mid May this year). I usually book guides for Saturday but have never tried for a Sunday.
The (less expensive) equivalent to Piste to powder in Val d'I sere is Alpine Experience (who all speak English - many being native English speakers) , or if you are an advanced off-piste skier, TopSki - which is all French and tends to have a higher standard top group. Both of these will put you into a group of the same standard but I think TopSki are more a guiding organisation while Alpine Experiences do guiding and lessons.

I know you can book the guides for whenever they want to work, but the regular "classes" run Monday to Friday (according to their web site). Knowing Graham I'm sure he skis 7 days a week regardless of whether he has clients or not:-). Are you booked on to a regular group for Saturday or is this a private booking?

This is a private booking, which is cheaper if there are 5-7 of you (in our case 6). PtP are unusual in being willing to take groups of 7, while most guides don't like to have more than 6. (For extremely steep slopes this may sometimes go down to 3.)
Edity. Come to think of it I have skied with him in public groups on Saturdays also, but that was several years ago.

Get in touch with Chris at http://tinderboxskischool.com/home.php He does short off piste courses, either as part of a group or on a 1:1 basis. Accom in Chamonix is plentiful, and access is easy from GVA. Been a student of his for several winters, and my skiing has improved quite a bit!
