Their winter sports stuff is just in.
Thinking of getting a helmet this season, does anyone have any experience of Decathlon's own brand lids?
This is the one I'm looking at - http://www.decathlon.co.uk/ad-im-16-s-p-id_8110616.html - if it's any good then £35 looks a very fair price.
Does one of the big name brands actually make them?
And, yes, I will be popping up to Surrey Quays to try one on rather than buying on-line.

tbh it looks average value at 35 quid, plenty of non branded.helmets available for less on ebayand with your question on the big brands making it, i doub it as even the big brands use Chinese or Italian factories so they don't even make their own helmets so.i would guess these are made in China but safety wise i think.they will be sound.

There looks to be a pretty good deal on a BLOC helmet on sportpursuit for £21.90 which I saw this morning.
http://www.sportpursuit.com/sales/bloc
There are a number of there helmets on that site too.
Just to add, I haven't bought anything from this site before but most have the reviews I have seen have been fairly positive.

You can go into Decathlon and try one on. Fit is more important than anything. The labels on it will mean very little, as long as it meets the safety standard of course.
I tried on dozens at the ski show, and the only one that fitted properly was a brand I had never heard of. (White Rock?) You can't do this online.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If Decathlon have any Head helmets in stock they are pretty good for £35. My mate has used one for the last 2 seasons and is very happy. We even had a crash witch involved me boarding over him and his lid bearly had a scratch on it.

No doubt you're right - plenty of time to shop around as it looks like a mid-March holiday for us this time.
I don't give a monkey's about brands (except for baked beans - Heinz or nothing) so the choice is wide.
I've got a pair of White Rock salopettes which are fine, didn't know they did helmets.

I've been looking for a helmet too and just been to Decathlon. The womens version of this one seems to fit my (evidently weirdly shaped) head better than all the 'brands' I've tried in various shops.... So for me it's worked out fab. The mens version didn't seem to fit my boyfriend though so definitely worth trying on.

Anybody else struggeling to get to buy the Lightweight down jacket on the front page?
I just cannot find it in website, and clicking on it just gives brochure.
Am I doing something wrong or just not getting it?

I got a simular decathlon helmet last year... Quality was okay but the profile was HUGE! My head was always warm but it did look like I had a freakishly large head!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Oh and lizski it was the same last year, it will take decathlon a while before they allow you to buy from the new range...

They do seem to have a habit of advertising stuff when the stock is very limited or just about to come in. Hopefully the latter or my guess is that they've run out of those jackets now.
Oh - and I get the same as you - even using various site searches.

You must try them on....I tried on about a dozen last year before I found one that fitted well (I must have odd shaped head).

agw, the wife has that one and is very happy with it. She won't ski without a helmet since being knocked unconscious by a snowboarder!
I have a simpler/cheaper one from the same line (it fitted my head better). I've been rather rough on it and it still going strong, looks kinda beat up though.
Tried lots of expensive ones, couldn't find one that fitted my noodle well.

It seems lots of us snowheads have odd shaped noodles! I must have tried most of the resorts stock before settling on a firefly last season, lucky for me it was one of the cheapest too.

agw, they had 100s of the jackets in the Sheffield store at the weekend, so it's unlikely they've sold out. More likely that they're not available online.
I looked at them and decided I didn't like the material - certainly wouldn't pay full price for one.

Yeah, last season in Les Arcs my friend got wiped out by a French snowboarder - cuts to forehead and a nice black eye, which he wouldn't have got with a helmet/googles combo. I should be able to pop up to Surrey Quays next week so we'll see. Otherwise there's always Slush and Rubble on the Purley Way but that'll be top dollar at this time of year, maybe find the right model there and order it online
