Sir Steve Redgrave is to become the new BASI President, succeeding Sir Clive Woodward. I have no idea what the BASI President actually does and I'm not aware that Woodward did anything other than turning up for the opening of BASI's new office, but I suppose it's nice to be associated with a legend like Steve Redgrave. He's a BASI L1 instructor and seems a great guy so good to have him associated with BASI. More info at PlanetSki.

This bit is not a rowing joke... I can assOAR you of that. The word on the street is that Steve asked for a stipulation if he were to become President. That stipulation being that BASI make all instructors wear helmets. Clearly, some kind of terms have been agreed or else he wouldn't be President (on the basis that you can't force 6000 BASI peeps to wear helmets) but what kind of helmet debate are the membership going to have about all this and can we all chip in please.

The President is a figurehead for the Association and we are in discussion with Sir Steve re his attendance at a number of key events throughout the year including (but not confirmed yet): BASI Annual Meetings, Trainers Conference, Spring Courses (Hintertux), Ski Shows.
Sir Steve has a range of skills and contacts and we will be discussing how we use his full skill set for the benefit of the Association and Members.

Clive Woodward is looking for a new position! Perhaps we could tempt him to join the BASI leadership along with Steve, wow what an opportunity to ensure BASI is up to speed with the latest buzzwords and Birtspeak, I estimate between 1,000 and 1,500 membership fees would tempt him
