Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Dynafit crampons - width margins ?

Does anybody have any experience with Dynafit crampons which are a few mm bigger than the intended ski width i.e. ...

... would the 100mm model above be just as effective on a 90 mm waisted ski or would side play affect its bite ?

better going a bit too big than a bit too small because they do not bend easily! my only concern would be if you had one of the toe pieces with no metal in the crampon fitting - i think you only get this on the TLT Speed these days

I use the Dynafit 100mm crampons on a 92mm waist ski on Radical ST bindings... I've had no problems yet, though admittedly I haven't needed to use them that often.

Serriadh, Ta. I had one particular nerve-wracking skin & traverse last season that convinced me that crampons were essential. If 100 mm crampons grip on a 92mm waist, that's good enough for me. Little Angel

List the crampons by actual size, i.e. the blue ones call 92mm by dynafit are listed as 88mm.

moffatross, I would prob go with the 100s as a 92mm waist = probably slightly wider where the crampons sit. I have used the 92/88mm size on skis with 89mm waist and they were 'snug'. Saying that, I personelly wouldn't want more than a 5mm gap either side of the ski to the crampon...

Between Dynafit's own crampons and the ones offered by B&D most of the ski sizes you'd actually want to fit crampons to (and a few you might not) should be covered to within a few mm of overlap. I have a pair of (as yet, quite unused) B&D crampons; they're not as nicely made as Dynafit's own, however.
