Tyrolia Sympro SP120 Bindings - Flexibility?

Hi there,

I've just put together a new (used) combination of Atomic Hawx 90 boots (circa 2009), and Tyrolia Sympro SP120 Bindings (2012), and from an initial 'click-in' there seems to be a lot of movement or flexibility in the toe binding once the boot is engaged. This is my first skiing set up, but I've always thought the connection between the boot and the binding should be tight to ensure maximum transmission of the skiers movement through to the skis themselves.

Can anyone advise on this?

Would anyone be able to point me towards a setting up guide/manual for the SP120 binding?

That binding, like many rental bindings, is pretty loose on the rail, especially if it's actually been on rental skis.

Mount bindings to boot length(ish), check that the AFD's will slide freely, set forward pressure & set dins. you can't do anything if there's play between the bindings & the rail. If there's play between the boot & the bindings then the most likely cause with old boots is worn toe &/or heel lugs. If there's wear to the lugs get new/replacement ones from CEM at Solutions4Feet.

Get the binding torque tested.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I've had a look through the manual you provided a link to, and it doesn't seem to cover any adjustment of the toe binding should there be free play/slop in this location. Maybe I am just being over cautious?

You'll need to Register first of course.

You cannot adjust that out. Basically they're crappy rental bindings & that's what you get. Get them torque tested.

Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

Am I going to seriously notice this skiing? This is a 1 year old set up which I bought at a reasonable price, and is my first since learning on rental equipment.

I'm heading to Flaine on Thursday, shall I get a new set of bindings fitted swiftly?

Any recommendations as to what binding I should have fitted as a budget/intermediate option? Can anyone recommend a shop in London to carry out a replacement for me?

capability, best thing is to get it torque tested as spyderjon has said, personally with that amount of movement i wouldn't want to use it but it might function just fine when it is tested, if it does then it si safe to use and as Jon has said both him and I have seen that binding with that much play...some are ok some are not

I suppose even if the torque is okay, the binding is still sloppy and I can imagine will feel pretty vague to use? As I mentioned, I'm going away at the end of the week, and don't want to have a disappointing time on my new skis. Should I just have them changed for a much more solid binding?

Sorry, again, any recommendations for a shop in London to do this for me?
