Poster: A snowHead

Hey all
Placing in snow conditions as its all about the snow this topic.
Decided to bolt to the Alps with the family as our last trip this year wasn't the best snow, so feel like we need a fix. Have 4x4 with snow tyres, so we are all set. However.
Dilema: Resort choice
Tignes: Love and know like back of my hand having done seasons there. Not sure much in forecast compared to others. Higher altitude resort level appeals. Lifts at your door with kids appeals. More likely to be better weather.
Chamonix: Looks like way more snow forecast, rain in valley, might be storm skiing.. kids are great skiers, but moan a bit in blizzards. Know really well.
St Anton: bucket loads of snow forecast. Never been.. want to go.. but really, there could be too much snow ! I never say that ! lol
Thoughts? If you could go away this weekend.. where would you go from there?
Cheers !
ps.. will take gear with us (avi etc) but this is more a family trip and don;t want to put kids in ski school really.. unless there is an epic morning worth doing that.
Alex

@Alex A, Esprit have been sending last minute ski deals for the 5th and 12th to us despite the fact we are going with them there on the twelve - that is really called rubbing your nose in it!
However strikes me as great value - £1099 for family of 4 in St Anton, flights, catered accomodation and transfer flying from Gatwick.

Hi @Alex A, You have probably seen the Tignes thread - we have had a foot of snow in the village - more up high if we could only get there - some more expected this week. Not sure about St A or Cham - but in rained in Meribel centre all night.

@Alex A, looks like lots of snow forecast for Cham, probably mostly drying up mid week. But weather forecast certainly not bluebirdlike.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

PS Next week selling out quick up here.
As you know I am very wary of the apps that predict snow amount - much can change by Friday, but Meteociel is showing about 55cm for Tignes and 85cm for Cham but as we are only 60km away as the Chough flies that may well change.

@Alex A, just been speaking to friends who are locals in St Anton who say they are hopeful of seeing the 1.5m forecast this week. That said the snowpack will be unstable due to high wind slab risk so the pistes will likely be very busy. Great time to go, long days and sunny terraces, if you can get accommodation and don't mind the crowds it would be a good Easter in St Anton. Tignes should also be excellent, that bit higher so could be a good bet.

Benn lashing in the Arlberg last two days. Quite a lot of new snow very high up but freezing level very high at the moment. Also strong winds meaning many lifts are shut resulting in very busy slopes indeed. More of the same forecast until the end of the week (bloody typical)
Oh also the runs to resort are appalling with the temperatures so high and all the rainfall. Fortunately we decided to treat ourselves and stay in a 4* hotel with pool and wellness facilities so we have alternative activities to fall back on

@dsoutar, what lifts are open? Are you looking for off piste or pisted runs?

In Lech nothing above the first set of lifts and the Rufi cable is closed.Did think about going to Zurs or St. Anton but instructors said it's no better there
Avy risk is 4 unfortunately (no surprise given the weather) so not rushing to do off-piste either

@dsoutar, i suggest you stay in Fang area or go up Rendl and ski down through the trees around Maas itinery or off side of Riffl 1. Also likely some nice pow to be had from Galzigbahn off the side of Larches etc, but at Av 4 they won't be opening anything higher up until it's been blasted early tomorrow I suggest at earliest. If St Christoph run open some good opportunities down there too.
