Anyone been to said resort in summer?
spurred on by recent threads we discovered over the weekend that some friends are heading to Les Contamines in August and we are considering joining them.

Greg

Haven't been in summer but can imagine it would be nice for walking (it's on the Mt Blanc circuit) and MTBing

Yes, walked through it twice while walking the TMB. Much the same as any other small French, Alpine town, as far as I can tell (as much as any are the same as any other) - I quite like it. Some really good walks out of the town, of various degrees of strenuousness; I suspect at least one lift will be open in Summer to get you up a hill without too much effort; and reasonably convenient for the fleshpots of Chamonix, if that's your thing (and you have a car).
The paved Roman road and footbridge just south of the town are worth a look.
If you're thinking of camping, then I can say the campsite is OK.
And it was the first place I ever had Tartiflette Pizza!

the fruit tarts here http://trelatete.com/ are worth the walk (went touring up there a few years back, which was great)

Live there one summer, 2009iirc, and a very nice place it is too.
Feels more like a French Village than a ski resort open for teh summer.
Not masses amounts to do but yes the lift is open all the way to the top station opening up some lovely walks and MTB trails.
Most of the shops are open too and they're not rip-off city like some resorts.

if the lifts up are open, there are some great walks, without having to do any heroic climbing, from the col du Joly - in both directions. Also I am told, good MTB trails over towards Megeve from there.

Yep - great place to go in the summer - has the feel of a real French village - we often drive over from Flaine on market day (I think Thursday but check with the Contamine tourist information) - kids also love the swimming lake and the boating lake at the top of the La Gorge cable car - really comes alive for the Ultra trail du Mont Blanc race as well - Le Husky is a great value "locals" bar - L'air du Temps brilliant for Italian/pizza - worth going just to meet the guy that runs it
