Russell, I think we had a discussion about this a couple of months ago...haven't time to find it at the minute We'll be in Westendorf, where the link comes in, towards the end of January. The link isn't fully skiable - there is a short shuttle bus transfer between the Westendorf area and Kitbuhel, and similarly there is a short shuttle bus transfer between Westendorf and SkiWelt proper...

If a 4 person chair is a quad and a 6 is a 6 pack what is the nickname for an 8 across ??? An Octowhoosh
Or is an 8er cableway something completely different ??????

The question seems to raise a surprise that the Cable way can be built in 6 months ?
This is not unusual the Nasereinbahn ( 8 man Gondola) in St Anton was constructed in less than 4 months (Sept to Dec) . The planning, project managment for these lifts is well defined & everything is pre-fabricated & delivered to site. to be assembled like a kit.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

stevew, thanks - the thought of queue management for an 8 abreast chair was doing my head in. And think of the havoc a fallng boarder could cause at the off ramp.

kuwait_ian, There is at least one 8 abreast chair on the ski welt. Surprisingly, it is remarkably civilised. I only once travelled it fully loaded and we had no problems. They were all skiers though.....

Paul Holland, thanks for that. I was half in jest. The newer, bigger, high speed detachable chairs usually have a better system of access gates, fences and barriers and often do work more smoothly at the departure point than the older 2s or 4s with the 'organised chaos' that passes for a queue.

kuwait_ian, loading is easy... they just rig it to act like 2x 4-man queues that only come together at the 'starting gate' where you slip forward onto the magic carpet. Off ramp is interesting though... need nice long slopey one with piste direction markers and maps a decent distance away to stop people stopping for their friends who are on the next chair.

Ian Hopkinson, missed it first time round, I was more surprised by the time scale more than anything.
