Poster: A snowHead

I am away in Vienna with work in July and my host has suggested skiing at Dachstein for an afternoon. Is it worth the trip of a couple of hours drive.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Jerby, Nearer 3.5 hrs to Dachstein. Very limited skiing. Lovely views though.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

How far would Hintertux be? Further than 3.5 hours?

(Thread drift) Hmmm Dachstein.. I used to have a pair of their 5 buckle V3 foam-fit race boots.. Think they're still up in the loft at my folk's place.

I'd be a bit wary. You usually arrive early on the glacier and knock it on the head by lunchtime as it gets very slushy.
There isn't too much lift served skiing there either.

Do you think it's worth the trip from Vienna for an afternoon or is there not enough for an afternoons skiing?

Jerby, As the others have said, not much skiing on the Dachstein and about 3 to 4 hours driving to get there depending on roadworks, and there are some real doozies on the A1 West Autobahn this summer. It might be better to go the night before stay at somewhere close by (for example Flangesax's place in Radstadt) if it really is of interest? Then get up early, ski in the morning and go back to Wien in the afternoon. Even with the coolish weather we are getting at the moment, the snow is fairly heavy by midday, even of it does snow overnight!
If you can run to it, a weekend at Kaprun may suit you better, but it is still a hefty drive to and from Wien.

Ummmm i think it's not worth the drive. It was just a thought to nick a few turns if it was close by. But by the sounds it's not.
Thanks for the info.
